If you are looking for decently priced sushi for the whole family, you have to try out the franchises at The Sushi 2016. With two different locations at Thornlie and Rivervale, it is serving up one of Perth’s most affordable sushi, with all plates priced at just $4.90.
Located near Aloft Hotel, The Sushi 2016 in Rivervale has an open kitchen in the middle of the restaurant where the sushi train is.
Seatings at the sushi train are quite limited, and they have bar stools for their counter seats, so families with younger toddlers might find it easier with the tables’ seatings instead (you don’t get to see the sushi train but are still able to order through from their tablet.)
We were there on a weekday night just after their opening time and managed to get the counter seats. The girls were excited to see the chefs up close in action, making the sushi.
Tablets were on the counter, and the girls had no trouble browsing through the menu and ordering their food.
Non-seafood lovers will be delighted to see that they have a big selection of non-seafood sushi. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available too. We tried the Aburi Wagyu, Roast Pork Nigiri and Peking Duck Nigiri, which are all beautifully sauced.
They also served up these “oversized” big rolls that are well-plated and so filling.
The black rice sushi is just as delicious too! And you can’t go wrong with ordering their raw fish nigiri, which tastes subtle and fresh.
Missy 9 loved the handroll, which is made fresh to order.
Sides like karrage, edamame and lotus chips are also priced at $4.90.
If sushi is not enough, they also offer main dishes like sizzling hot plates, noodles, tempura, and deep fry, which are priced differently.
The girls ended their meal with some mochi dessert.
The Sushi 2016 is value for money with its huge selection of fresh sushi. Takeaway options are available, and they offer customized party platters in different sizes, too. The restaurant gets packed quickly, so be prepared to wait in line during busy hours. However, the staff are very friendly, and their service is very quick. Baby chairs are available, and toilets are conveniently located inside the restaurant. Free parking is available on the streets, and paid parking is also available at the car park in the building.
