Planning a family-friendly staycation in Perth City? Don’t forget to consider Aloft Perth! This hotel, which is part of the Marriott chain, was the first Aloft Hotel in Australia. It’s just a short stroll from the beautiful Swan River in Rivervale. During the school holidays, Aloft adds extra kid-friendly amenities, making it a fantastic option for a family-friendly staycation.
We’ve stayed at the Aloft several times as a family, and it consistently impresses us with its comfortable rooms, great food, friendly service, and fun extras for the kids.
Hotel Facilities
Families can take advantage of the 18-meter heated outdoor splash pool, conveniently connected to the hotel’s W XYZ Bar. You can keep an eye on the kids in the pool while relaxing on a sun lounger with one of their signature cocktails. And if you’re concerned about the extra calories, you can always hit the fully equipped gym later on the mezzanine floor to work it off. The pool is open from 6am to 7pm each day.
The WXYZ Bar is situated in the lobby area, offering a cosy spot to enjoy an evening drink, or two, accompanied by live music on Fridays.
If you prefer to enjoy your drink without your children interrupting other guests, you can opt to relax in the adjoining Re lounge. Meanwhile, the kids can stay entertained with a game of Foosball or ping-pong. Additionally, during the school holidays, they also offer a free pinball machine and arcade games.
The Rooms
The modern and spacious, well-equipped rooms provide families with a comfortable home base from which to explore Perth City. During our stay, we stayed in a twin room with two double beds.
Be sure to request a room on one of the higher floors, as there are 18 in total. This way, you can enjoy stunning views of the Swan River or Perth City through the floor-to-ceiling windows.
The bathroom is stylish and spacious, complete with a refreshing rain shower (no bath), plenty of storage, full-length mirrors, and excellent lighting.
The hotel showcases art from local artists, which also extends into the guest rooms. Who needs to go exploring the laneways of Perth City to capture the perfect Instagram photo when you can create it right in the hallway of your room?
The Dining
When staying at the Aloft, you have a couple of great in-house dining options to choose from, which you can charge to your room. You can dine at Springs Kitchen, open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner from 6 am to 8:30 pm daily, offering a variety of modern Australian dishes. Alternatively, you can indulge in authentic Italian wood-fired pizzas made with hand-stretched dough at 450° Pizza. During the school holidays kids aged 12 and under can dine free with a full paying adult at both Springs Kitchen and 450° Pizza when staying at the hotel.
450° Pizza is a recent addition to Aloft. The venue is small and cosy, and you can dine in or take your food away.
The menu offers a wide range of wood-fired pizzas and sharing plates, making it quite a challenge to choose from! There is also a small selection of kids’ pizzas featuring classic favourites such as cheese & ham and pepperoni.
We began with the charcuterie board and warm chorizo and olives, followed by pizza.
The pizza earned a spot on our list of favourite pizza places.
If you’ve saved room for dessert, they offer a special dessert pizza that changes daily. We indulged in a chocolate and peanut butter creation. Yum!
It was a gorgeous, warm autumn evening when we visited, and we enjoyed our pizzas in the alfresco dining area at the front of the restaurant. The restaurant was bustling with both in-house guests dining and locals picking up takeaways.
Springs Kitchen is a spacious and airy venue with ample seating. We have consistently found the food to be exceptional and the service attentive.
(Please note: photos of the food contained below are from our previous visit to Springs Kitchen and may not be reflective of the current food menu)
Springs Kitchen provides a fabulous kids’ menu featuring high-quality meals accompanied by a healthy portion of side salad or vegetables.
Breakfast is served each morning in Springs Kitchen from 6am to 11am everyday. You can opt for the full breakfast buffet or select from the a la carte menu.
The breakfast buffet offers a substantial spread, featuring the usual hot fare of bacon, eggs, sausages, and more, as well as pastries, cakes, cold meats, fruits, and a variety of yoghurt.
Parking
You might be fortunate enough to find free roadside parking near the hotel, but if security and convenience are top priorities for you, there is a Wilson car park next to the hotel that provides easy access directly into the hotel lobby. Guests can request a discounted parking ticket upon check-in.
