Love a family meal with a view? Set right by the water at Mindarie Marina, The Boat is a great option for lunch or dinner. Inside, The Boat is spacious and light with big windows looking out over the water. Honestly, most people will want to sit outside, especially on a sunny day.
Outside there is an open beer garden with shade sails over most of the tables. There is a relaxed feel with younger children in highchairs, as the area is open to the water. It’s worth noting that the boardwalk has no rails, so you need to keep younger children close by.
The Boat offers pub style dishes with a selection of kids meals on the ‘Little Sailors” menu. Each meal is $15 (including a juice) and kiddos can choose whether it is served with chips or a salad. There’s something there for all tastes with the choices including battered fish, chicken bites, tomato gnocchi, or a cheeseburger. If they’re still peckish, kids ice cream cups will go down a treat. The rest of the menu boasts a selection of typical pub food, with a British lean; think Beef and Guiness pie, bangers and mash, plus a parmy, salads and more. Mr H enjoyed super crisp beer battered fish and chips, served the English way with mushy peas, tarte sauce and a squeeze of fresh lemon.
I wasn’t feeling super hungry, so chose a light haloumi taco trio. It was a good gluten free option, even if I was also accidentally vegetarian *wink*.
There’s a decent selection of wine and beer to enjoy. I enjoyed a dry rose, by the water. If the beer drinkers like a craft ale, there are a few on tap from nearby brewery ‘The Indi’.
The service was friendly and there is an option to order via QR code to avoid the queue at the bar. There’s not a lot to entertain the kiddos (you may remember there used to be a ball pit some years ago), but the neighbouring pop-up bar ‘Life Boat‘ can be a life saver with little ones itching to burn off energy, after your meal. There’s a playground, sandpit and more to explore.
Rain or shine, The Boat is a fab spot to enjoy a meal out with kids in the northern ‘burbs.
