Set right by the water at Mindarie Marina is The Boat Bar and Restaurant.
Inside it is spacious and light with windows looking out over the water, the new children’s play area with a ping pong table, foosball table and a boxed off area with foam blocks was a hit with the kids and kept them entertained while I enjoyed my meal. The foam block area was perfectly designed and meant he didn’t have to spend the entire time in a high chair and he wasn’t able to run off.
Outside there is an open beer garden with shade sails over the tables and chairs. There is a relaxed feel with some older children playing on the raised garden beds and younger children in high chairs at some tables. Whilst the older children are having fun playing nearby, the boardwalk has no rails so you need to keep younger children close by.
The Boat offers a varied menu with a selection of kids meals. Each meal on the kids menu is $10 and has the potential to be a healthy meal, as you can choose whether it is served with chips, vegetables or salad. There’s something there for all tastes with the choices including battered fish, chicken schnitzel, mac n cheese, sausage, a burger or sandwich.
The kids will be delighted with the activity pack they receive, offering colouring in, a dice to make and counters for a game. The activity packs are complementary and are on every buffet station around the venue.
The rest of the menu boasts a selection of typical pub food, pie, parmy or fish and chips along with some different options such as bratwurst sausage or buttered asparagus served with mushrooms, eggs and hollandaise sauce (all of which were lovely!).
There are three different salad options on the menu, I highly enjoyed the glass noodle salad with chicken. There are also weekly specials such as $19 steak night on Wednesdays.
As it is a bar, there’s a good selection of wine and beer to enjoy and delicious looking dessert menu. Our servings were HUGE so no room for dessert on this occasion!
The service was friendly and there was no queue to place our order at the bar and the food arrived promptly which was great. It’s always a challenge to keep the toddler occupied while you wait! The nearby dome has a fenced in playground behind it, so little ones can always burn off some energy there after your meal.
Rain or shine, The Boat is the perfect place to enjoy a meal out with kids.
