Located within the Perth Cultural Centre, the State Library of Western Australia is a place where Western Australia’s history is collected and preserved for future generations. You can easily get lost in this multi-story building with great gallery spaces and many study spots that promise a stunning view of Perth City. Not only is this the state reference library, but also houses the State Archives and has an entire level dedicated for little readers- The Story Place.
Stepping inside, we were drawn to the ground-floor gallery, where they regularly hold free exhibitions showcasing different authors and artists.
The Story Place on the Mezzanine Level is beautifully designed for children aged 0- 8. Check out their website to join them for Rhyme Time and Story Time with your little ones. The colourful and playful space behind the gated area enticed the kids.
Kids can enjoy a decent selection of books, from picture and board books for toddlers to junior fiction and non–fiction books for older kids.
I like that there are many reading corners with different chairs for kids to enjoy reading.
Missy 6 loved the activity area with interactive wall panels and drawing tables.
Toddlers will enjoy the long play panels on the walls.
There is so much to see here; each wall is informative and interactive for the kids to enjoy.
There’s also another smallish gallery inside the Story Place for them to check out.
Missy 9 was excited to find Board at the Library on Level 2 where they keep a collection of board games and puzzles. Feel free to grab a game and choose a spot to play and relax!
And what a view for a quiet study corner! The library also offers free Wi-Fi and power outlets.
The girls also looked at the State Archives, where they found the microfiche readers.
The café on the ground floor offers food options and indoor and outdoor seating. Unfortunately, it wasn’t open on the weekend when we were there.
Toilets, a baby change room, and a water fountain are located inside the building. The library is pram-friendly, and lifts are available.
The nearest parking is available at the car park in Perth Cultural Centre. Otherwise, the library is a short walking distance from Perth Train Station via public transport.
