Schlice, Morley
Schlice is a new dessert bar cafe situated in the Coventry Village shopping complex. This vibrant family-friendly cafe features kids toys and high chairs and a menu for little diners, as well as coffee and delicious desserts for adults to enjoy.
On walking in, we were greeted by the friendly staff. Miss 4.5 opted for cinnamon ball donuts, and the lovely assistant explained the various sauce and topping options she could pick. She went with Nutella and sprinkles. These two delicious donuts arrived warm on a kebab stick smothered in Nutella and colourful Hundreds and Thousands in a paper dish with a fork.
As it was a hot day, I chose a cooling coffee frappe along with a Caramello Schlice, a type of frozen cheesecake. The Schlice arrived dipped in melted white chocolate and covered in sticky caramel sauce, crunchy caramel popcorn and salty pretzels. It tasted rich and creamy, and the serving size was HUGE! My eyes were clearly bigger than my tummy. I could not finish it all.
With serving sizes this generous, you could easily share a plate with a friend or with the kids for an indulgent treat. We found the prices pretty reasonable too, which our whole order coming to around $14.
Miss 4.5 found a basket of books, games and toys by the counter. As we waited for our food to arrive, she enjoyed reading a story about dolphins with me and checked out the Uno cards.
Other options on the menu for kids at Schlice include ice cream cups, sprinkles Schlice, Cocopops Schlice and MnMs Schlice. This is as well as the delicious donut balls we loved.
Other Schlice options for big people include Oreo, Crunchie, Mintcray and Snickers. There are adults servings of donuts available too. These come in flavours like chocolate overload, Nutella indulgence and Rafaello.
If Churros are more your style, these are also on the menu at Schlice. These are a baked Brioche style, not the deep-fried Spanish style you’re probably used to from other Churro cafes. These come with a variety of indulgent toppings such as caramel, chocolate overload and sweet golden syrup.
Miss 4.5 is keen to try a milkshake next time we stop off. These come in all the traditional flavours such as vanilla, chocolate and strawberry, but also in more uncommon ones like mango or bubblegum. Schlice also serve megashakes mirroring their Schlice flavours such as Oreo, Mintcray and Caramello. This is in addition to the typical coffee, tea and cold drink options cafes generally offer.
Obviously, if you have a nut allergy sufferer in the family, this is perhaps not the family-friendly cafe for you as nuts to feature in the dishes often. But as a sweet treat in the school holidays, it certainly was a winner for us.
