The northern suburbs are brimming with British ex-pats. And if you’ve got a hankering for a proper cod n chip supper, a trip to the Great British Chippy in Currambine is like a little taste of home. If you’re Aussie or from some other corner of the world, you may never have experienced traditional style British fish and chips. They are a slightly different to what you’re likely to find at Fremantle’s Fishing Boat Harbour. Personally, I absolutely love them.

The first thing you’ll notice about the Great British Chippy is the huge shiny stainless steel frying range. This is the real deal – specially imported from the UK, and what really makes this a truly authentic experience.

You can order a take away to enjoy at home, but we like to dine in, to devour the fish and chips fresh from the fryer. The small dine in area at the rear of the fish n chip shop has high chairs for little ones too.

There are several parks nearby too, if you fancy a picnic at Sir James McCusker Park or Iluka Foreshore Park. Delamere Park in Currambine is within walking distance.

North Atlantic Cod and Haddock, like you’d find in a chippy in the UK, are on the menu here. Locally caught varieties of fish are also available. For me, I love to tuck into the thick, flaky cod and hand cut chips (that are perfectly imperfect and a little soggy) and the sides – mushy peas, chip shop curry and gravy.

There is a kid’s menu available, which comes with a pop top drink. The GBC gets even more points from me, as they have a fantastic Gluten Free offering. One of the things I miss the most is crisp golden battered fish!

British favourites black pudding, battered jumbo sausages, king ribs, steak and kidney pudding, squid rings, burgers and more. If you’re still feeling peckish after all that, try a deep-fried Mars Bar! Wash down the fish n chips with a cup of Yorkshire tea, or a British soft drink, like Iron Bru.

The Great British Chippy serves up freshly fried fish, chips and more. Perfect for a quick and easy family meal in the northern suburbs.
