Located on Michael Street, this retro-vintage themed cafe is filled with colourful mid-century furniture, quirky décor and shelves of collectable pieces. It’s the kind of place where you come for a coffee and end up lingering much longer than planned, simply because there’s so much to look at.
Inside, the cafe is styled with genuine vintage tables and chairs, classic sideboards, old lamps and retro knick-knacks. Many of the items on display are actually for sale, so if you’re a fan of mid-century design you can browse for a unique piece to take home while you wait for your order. The overall feel is relaxed and homely, with friendly staff and a very local, community vibe.
Mid Century Cafe offers a selection of breakfast favourites, light lunches, sweet treats and very good coffee. Think homemade cakes and slices on the counter, simple but hearty brunch options, and well-made espresso coffees, iced coffees and milkshakes. On our visit, the iced coffee and berry muffin were both delicious, and the strawberry milkshake was a definite hit with our little one. While there isn’t a dedicated kids’ menu, you will find babycinos and plenty of kid-pleasing options in the cakes and drinks cabinet to keep younger diners happy.
Families are very welcome here, and there’s a small kids’ area that makes it easy to relax while you finish your drink. The play corner includes a mini table and chairs, a toy kitchenette and a selection of toys to keep little hands busy.
