Perched at the edge of Pinjarra on a former vineyard, Café Chérie has quickly cemented itself as a must‑stop spot for families heading down the South West Highway. This modern French‑inspired café manages to feel both a little bit fancy and wonderfully relaxed, making it perfect for everything from a quick coffee stop to a lingering weekend brunch with the kids. Vast green lawns, a wooden Playground and plenty of space give it a real “mini day out” feel rather than just a café visit.

As you step inside Café Chérie, you’re greeted by the aroma of freshly baked goodies – the cabinet is brimming with everything from tarts to pastries and cakes.

The interior is lovely, with plenty of tables surrounded by lush indoor plants. A fireplace will make it cosy in winter.

On this sunny day, most people were taking full advantage Café Chérie’s pièce de resistance, the deck. Shade sails covered some of the tables. There were also families on the picnic tables and sitting on rugs on the lawn.

We enjoyed soaking up the early spring sun while sipping on a freshly brewed coffee (and indulging in a little cake!).

Kids can explore the shaded wooden fort in the playground, which promises lots of adventures.

There’s plenty of slides and climbing ropes to keep them entertained. Parents can relax on the deck, keeping a watchful eye on their little ones over a coffee.

The food offering is where the French flair really shines. The front cabinets are piled high with patisserie treats – think colourful macarons, glossy fruit tarts, flaky croissants and delicate slices of cake. There’s a good mix of traditional French sweets and more familiar café slices, so even cautious kids will find something they like. The à la carte breakfast and lunch menus blend French classics with Aussie café favourites: expect options like crepes, croque madame, eggs, and fresh, generous lunch plates. It’s worth saving room for dessert or bringing an esky bag to take a box of pastries home.

Service is warm and welcoming, with staff used to dealing with both big family groups and couples popping in for a quiet cake. At busy times – especially weekends and holidays – the café can get very popular, and waits for coffee and food can be longer, so it’s wise to allow a bit of extra time and pack a few spare snacks or toys for impatient kids. The upside of that popularity is a lovely, lively atmosphere and a sense that you’ve discovered somewhere special that locals genuinely love. The café is walk‑in only for most groups (they only take bookings for larger parties), which keeps things flowing and flexible for families.

Location‑wise, Café Chérie is a winner. It’s just before you reach the main part of Pinjarra and only a short drive from Ranger Red’s Zoo, making it an easy add‑on to a family day out with Australian animals. With plenty of on‑site parking, room for prams, and an easy‑going, pet‑friendly feel outside, it works just as well as a quick coffee stop on the way to the South West as it does for a special birthday brunch or multi‑generation catch‑up. If you’re hunting for a child‑friendly café with a bit of European charm in the Peel region, Café Chérie more than earns a spot on your list.
