Bullsbrook Library is situated in the heart of Bullsbrook township at the Ethel Warren Bullsbrook Community Centre. This family-friendly library has a colourful kids corner and runs weekly children’s activities.
On the day we visited, we had just missed the pre-school storytime activities. A group of tables were set up for little ones aged 0-5 years to create a piece of art with glue, gems and sequins.
The kids corner also features a lego table, bins and shelves full of books and DVDs, and some cute animal seats and synthetic grassy hills to sit on. Storytime is done in this area with the children sitting on a colourful alphabet mat.
This bright, welcoming library has some quirky features such as a white picket fence suspended from the ceiling and cute sheep cutouts. We also found a beautiful book of kids artwork on the shelf in the kids corner that the library staff have lovingly collated and put on display.
For active kids, we found a small multi-level playground just outside in an enclosed courtyard. Great if little ones need a break to run around.
Beyond Storytime, other kids library programs available here include FutureLab – CoderDojo Club and Chess Club. Older kids will also love checking out the virtual reality equipment in the very back corner near the YA novels.
One of the other cool things we noticed at Bullsbrook Library was a seed library located by the library entrance. Families are invited to take up to four varieties of seeds each season to grow at home. These range from vegetables to herbs and flowers.
The other wonderful thing we found about Bullsbrook Library being located within the community centre was the close access to other services within the centre, including sports clubs, a very reasonably priced Toy Library, and Meerilinga, who provide Family Circle (similar to playgroup) and other family classes and support programs.
The Toy Library was a big hit with the girls during our visit. Miss 4 loved dressing up, and they all loved being able to test out the different toys before borrowing.
All in all, Bullsbrook Library and the community centre seems to be a very family friendly space, and we’d highly recommend a visit. It’s a great spot to get to know other families in the area or drop in for some family fun.
