Big4 Emu Beach Holiday Park in Albany is a brilliant base for a family getaway on WAโs south coast. Set among peppermint trees and just a short stroll from beautiful Emu Beach, it has that classic coastal holiday park feel, with loads to keep kids busy and plenty of options for caravanners and cabinโstayers alike.
On our stay we booked a two-bedroom family chalet, which worked really well for a family of four. One bedroom had two sets of bunks, and the other a double bed, so the kids had their own space. The living area was a good size, with a comfy threeโseater couch plus an armchair, and the dining area had a sixโseater table โ handy for meals and rainyโday board games. Having a full kitchen made selfโcatering easy and helped keep costs down on a longer stay.

The only real downside for us was the location of our particular chalet. We were given a chalet right at the entrance to the park, even before reception, and away from our friendsโ chalet despite having asked to be nearby. Being right on the internal road meant it was quite busy around checkโin and checkโout times, and we didnโt feel as relaxed letting the kids run ahead or ride around as we usually would in a holiday park. It wouldnโt be a dealโbreaker, but if youโre travelling with younger kids itโs worth requesting not to be placed in that first row of chalets (weโd specifically avoid Chalet 24 next time).
Once youโre into the main part of the park, it really shines for families. The shipโthemed Playground is fantastic, with a blend of nature play and traditional equipment. Thereโs plenty of sand and water play, climbing opportunities and places to explore, so kids can easily spend ages there getting pleasantly grubby and imaginative.

Like any good holiday park, thereโs a big jumping pillow which is always a magnet for children. It can get busy at peak times, but the kids absolutely loved it and were more than happy to share the space.

The stand out feature is the colourful splash park with water slides and a giant tipping bucket that keeps the kids entertained for ages on warm days. Younger children can splash around in shallower areas while older ones race down the slides or wait in anticipation for the bucket to tip.

A second jumping pillow adds even more space for bouncing, cartwheels and energyโburning fun, which is especially handy in busy holiday periods.

The recreation room has also been designed with families in mind, offering a kids club room, guest lounge and games, so thereโs always somewhere cosy to retreat to when the weather turns. For families, that mix of dry and wet play, indoor and outdoor spaces, means thereโs something to do in the park from morning to night, no matter what the Albany weather is doing. The park also runs a free kids club across most school holidays, offering craft, simple cooking activities and games โ our kids came out from their session full of stories and very happy.

Another favourite for our crew was the miniโgolf course, which is a bit different and very fun. Itโs laidโback and familyโfriendly, perfect for a couple of rounds between beach walks or outings into town. There are also pedal goโkarts you can hire, and itโs an easy ride up to Emu Point Cafรฉ for a hot chocolate or coffee with a view.

For those bringing their own van or tent, there are generous powered and unpowered sites, and the park offers petโfriendly sites at certain times of year, which is great if you like to travel with the family dog. Recent additions include modern twoโbedroom deluxe villas and an accessible villa option, giving more choice for families and guests needing stepโfree accommodation.
One of the biggest drawcards of Big4 Emu Beach is, of course, the location. Itโs less than ten minutesโ drive from Albany town centre, close to supermarkets and attractions, yet it feels peaceful and tucked away. Emu Beach itself is just a short walk from the park โ even when the weather isnโt ideal for swimming, itโs lovely to hear the waves from your accommodation and to wander down for a brisk, salty walk. Being so handy to Emu Point and the wider Albany region, it makes a really convenient base for exploring beaches, lookouts, the National Anzac Centre and the stunning coastline.

Overall, we had a really enjoyable stay at Big4 Emu Beach Holiday Park. Aside from the lessโthanโideal position of our particular chalet near the entrance, everything else about the park worked beautifully for a family holiday โ from the Playgrounds, splash park and kids club to the easy beach access and friendly, wellโkept grounds. Weโd happily return, and next time weโll simply make a note on our booking about chalet location to make it a nearโperfect family escape.
