Zia Park Equestrian Centre Review
If you have a horse-mad kid then a trial ride at Zia Park Equestrian Centre is going to be perfect for them – although beware they might come away wanting a pony of their own as my daughter did!
The trails rides are a great thing to do as a whole family, they have a variety of horses and ponies for the smaller riders and cater for all skill levels. The trail rides are led by an experienced rider and last for an hour. You can book a private trail ride or do the group one where you might ride with others – up to 6 in a group.
I booked our ride online and found the whole process easy and straightforward. I got a confirmation email and a reminder text the day before. The booking page does say rides go ahead in all weather except lightning and storms so after a week of rain we were lucky the day we had booked was clear.
Once we arrived we completed the indemnity form and picked out a helmet that fitted. One of the staff took my daughter to get her helmet and meet the horses while I was completing the forms which was nice.
The staff help you mount and give you quick instructions on how to hold the reins, direct the horse and how to stop and go! They make any adjustment to the stirrups and then you are ready to go.
When we started the ride, our guide lead my daughter’s horse for the first little part which gave her time to get comfortable and used to riding. My friend and I followed on our horses. The horses all followed each other well and stopped together when we needed to. The guide gave us the choice to trot at one point which we all tried. The actual trail we followed was through bushland.
When we got back to the riding centre we were given a chance for a group photo and then helped off our horses. We were told we could stay as long as we wanted and pet the horses before we left.
It was a fun experience that our daughter loved and she canโt wait to do it again. We finished the ride around lunchtime so headed to Mt Helena Tavern for lunch.
Zia Park Equestrian Centre is located on Stoneville Rd in Gidgegannup. Open for trail rides, lessons and pony camps.
