In the spirit of โWonder out Yonderโ, we did a weekender to Wave Rock in Hyden recently. We chose to stay at the Cottages that are part of the
Wave Rock Resort and Caravan Park. Wave Rock is in the Wheatbelt town of Hyden 340kms south-east of Perth. We took our time on the drive down deciding to take in the
Tin Horse Hwy along the way.
The check-in for the resort is at the kiosk of the Caravan park but the resort accommodation is on the other side of the road from the caravan park about 1km away. The resort contains 14 two-bedroom cottages that are situated next to Lake Magic.
The colonial-style brick cottages are well set apart. They are town bedroom cottages that can sleep 6. The cottages had a self-contained kitchen, open plan lounge and dining area, an enclosed outdoor area and air conditioning. Each cottage had a carport and between cottages were gazebos with seating and bbq facilities. We found the accommodation to be clean and well presented. They were also very spacious and comfortable. They are also well positioned, only a short drive (1km) to the base of Wave Rock and Hippos Yawn and about 4kms into Hyden.
The cottages are located right next to Lake Magic and a salt spa pool which is a salt lake but we chose to drive the 1km back to the main caravan park area for a swim in the
swimming pool.

The pool area was nice with grassed areas and gazebos and sun lounges to relax on. I imagine it would be popular on hot days but we were the only ones using it when we stopped by.
The
caravan park area also has a playground which is close to the swimming pool. The playground had a grassed area around it and a few picnic tables for seating. The playground is a wooden structure with cubby house, climbing/balancing bridge, slide and a swing.

Our cottage was right on the edge of a salt spa pool. We didnโt swim in here but apparently, it is WAโs version of the Dead Sea. There was work still being done on the gazebos that were around the lake but it looked like each gazebo was going to have a toilet and shower area.
The larger natural Lake Magic was a short walk away and it was interesting seeing the dried salt around the edge and on the rocks. There are a number of walk trails around the rock including a 3.6km loop walk that goes past the resort, Lake Magic, Hippos Yawn and Wave Rock.
Wave Rock really is an amazing natural feature and we enjoyed our weekend away exploring the area. The cottage accommodation was clean, comfortable and had everything needed for a self-contained holiday
