Museum of Natural History (Academy of Taxidermy Museum), Guildford

For dinosaur lovers who also enjoy a โ€œreal worldโ€ nature museum vibe, the Museum of Natural History in Guildford is a fascinating indoor wander through over 2,000 preserved specimens (native animals, birds, fish and reptiles) in the heritage-listed former Regent Theatre. Alongside the taxidermy displays, there are life-size dinosaur models including a pteranodon suspended from the ceiling and a tyrannosaurus at the back of the building, plus cabinets of fossils and preserved insects (including an insect in amber). If youโ€™ve got a budding palaeontologist, Parco Park Playground is a sand-based, toddler-friendly spot with a fun dinosaur skeleton digging pit beside the main play structureโ€”pack a little shovel/brush and let the kids โ€œexcavateโ€ the bones. The Playground has two hut-style towers linked by a rope bridge (a bit wobbly and the steps are spaced, so it can be tricky for littlies), plus climbing ropes/nets, a slide, and two nest swings in the non-sand area.
