The Ozone Rooftop Game Day Experience, Optus Stadium

Sports loving families can now watch a game of footy, at Optus Stadium, from a whole new perspective! We started off watching the recent Fremantle Dockers vs Western Bulldogs match from seats a few rows back from the halfway line. By the time the second half swung around, we were sitting 42 meters high up on the roof, watching the action from the best seat in the house!

The Ozone Rooftop Game Day Experience Optus Stadium

After watching the first quarter of action from “regular seats”, the four of us feeling excited (and just a touch nervous!) met our friendly guide in one of the stadiums lobby’s. He guided us to The Ozone office, which is where the tours begin.

Here we watched a quick intro video, suited up in a grey jumpsuits and were assisted with putting on our safety harnesses. We took the advice to wear light, comfy clothing (such as active wear or tracksuit pants) and enclosed shoes.

Once we were all ready to go, we took the lift to level five of Optus Stadium, then were guided through a locked door and up 78 steps to the rooftop area, amongst the famous sails. The tour leaders have plenty of fun stadium facts along the way. There are sloping ramps, plus a short ladder section, so it is easily accessible for most people.

From the rooftop walkway, next to where the floodlights are, we took in breathtaking 360-degree views. By day you’ll see the Swan River and city. For those watching night games (like us) you’ll get to see the brilliant Optus Stadium light show close up, as well as the city, Matagurup Bridge and Crown Perth lights. Today it was all bathed in a purple hue, for the Dockers.

Once on the rooftop, our harnesses were individually clipped into their state-of-the-art safety system. We were locked onto a rail on the roof at all times and I felt super safe. This also reassured the boys.

From there, we made our way around the rooftop perimeter with the intimate group of 10, looking down onto the exciting game below.

The boys had the opportunity to take a half step off the platform to lean out, hands-free, over the edge of the roof! It makes for a great photo opportunity, which your tour guide will capture. The J-man was so brave!

The 2-hour tour includes a full quarter of footy viewed from the roof. We took our seats, with no rail between us and the edge, 42 meters above the ground. It is such a cool experience, watching a game viewed from a perspective that few will ever see.

Peering through the gridded floor, we were basically sitting right above the away fans, at the east end goal posts. No score review was needed here!

From the highest seats in the stadium, we were excited to watch the third quarter. The boys (young and old!) were just mesmerised and still caught up in the atmosphere of a very close AFL game. We all thoroughly enjoyed this special experience.

These tours run on game days, so you can choose between West Coast Eagles or Fremantle Dockers home games. The experience is also run on other sporting events, like the upcoming AC Milan v AS Roma football game.

The Ozone at Optus Stadium offers many different kinds of family friendly tours – for the adrenaline junkies, and the sports lovers. Be sure to check them out, and make special memories together.
