Richard Aldersea Park is situated among the leafy streets of Clarkson, just behind Clarkson Primary School. Little Miss and I discovered it while out for a drive, and found its suitable for a range of ages and abilities, from toddlers upwards. The main play structure has two slides, and lots to climb. Ashdale Park is a lovely playground situated in Darch. The playground is located at the rear of Ashdale Primary, adjacent to a small pocket of bushland. The playground here is partially shaded with shade sails. It is set well back from the road, down a pathway, so should be safe for little ones to play. The play equipment is a good mix for younger and older children. The main play structure features two slides of different sizes. Neil McDougall Park is a leafy park with a great playground for kids of all ages in the heart of Como. The first thing that grabbed Miss 3’s attention when we arrived here was the flying fox. This has a small platform to climb up and launch from. With a bit of help from me, she had several rides. She loved it! Smiles all around when she hopped off. Barwon Park Craigiesituated in the family-friendly suburb of Craigie, Barwon Park Craigie has a great mixture of play equipment and green space to keep most active kids busy. On our visit, my Miss 3 immediately headed to the wood chip area first. This is a good spot for toddlers and kids who like imaginative play. It features a tunnel to crawl through, noughts and crosses, an abacus, and a playhouse with seating. Santa Ana Park Currambine – hidden away behind the Currambine shops, down Santa Ana Mews is a little gem of a park. Tall trees surround a few grassy areas, perfect for kicking around a ball and provide shade to most of the park. The real draw to this park for us, was the playground as there’s one section which is designed just for toddlers, with just the right challenges and a safe height for your toddlers to master the steps and slide by themselves. Set right in the middle of the new, vibrant dining and entertainment precinct at Westfield Whitford City is a beautifully unique play area for children. Overlooked by many of the restaurants and sheltered underneath shade sails, the play area is unlike any I’ve ever seen before. Situated in the Shorehaven Estate is Shorehaven Boulevard Playground – a lovely, partially fenced playground that is perfect for toddlers and preschoolers. Shorehaven Boulevard Playground features some play equipment we hadn’t come across before, and Miss 3 had a great time exploring. In the sand area, we found lots of colourful wood and plastic based play equipment. The lowest parts are made up of interconnected stations and feature some sensory play. Tucked along Egerton Drive in Aveley, Vale Adventure Park is a fantastic, activity-packed Playground that makes a brilliant family outing, especially if you’ve got children of different ages. It’s an easy walk from the local IGA and nearby cafes such as Mecca Gourmet, so you can grab a coffee or snacks on your way over. Tucked away on Bromley Street in Beckenham, Bee Park is a sweet little neighbourhood Playground that’s perfect for toddlers and young children. The entire space is designed around a bee and honeycomb theme, with hexagonal play zones and cute bee details that inquisitive kids will love. Dixon Park in Hamilton Hill is a much-loved local nature Playground set amongst mature trees, fruit trees and native bushland, making it feel like a little bush adventure right in the suburbs. CY O’Connor Hub Playground is a lovely drive to Mundaring Weir, through Perth’s Hills. You can get there from Kalamunda or Mundaring. Not only is the huge dam essential to WA’s water supply, but it’s a lovely spot for a family picnic. There are historical, natural, play and educational attractions in the “CY O’Connor Hub”, which is found on the north side of the weir, accessed by a road behind the Mundaring Weir Hotel. We discovered this great little park just around the corner from Little Banksia Cafe in Kensington. It has a lot of features including a nature play area and playground. Hidden amongst trees along the Swan River foreshore, in the shadow of Optus Stadium, the Chevron Parkland is a wonderful nature play experience in Perth. The 2.6 hectares of rehabilitated parklands and nature-based playgrounds were opened as part of Stadium Park in 2018, and the area has grown and matured in that time. If you’ve ducked into Woolies at the Banksia Grove Shopping Centre recently, you’ll have probably noticed a new play area near the entrance. The bright and colourful play space has something to amuse most kids. The first thing we noticed was the slide. The ladder for this is built inside what looks like colourful metal crates. Germano Park is a peaceful, leafy park with a playground to suit most kids located in Wanneroo. If your kids love to climb, they’ll love this park. What struck me first when we arrived at Germano Park was how quiet and green it was. The park is full of trees and soft birdsong. The playground area is covered by shade sails with a sand base. This features climbing rope equipment in the form of a rope tunnel, a rope ladder, and ropes with plastic platforms to balance across. Just around the corner from the Alexander Heights IGA, is Lemongrass Park, a lovely shaded playground with traditional equipment and some nature play elements. One of the main features that caught our eye was the rope equipment. The curved slide has a rope web to climb up instead of stairs, and there are various rope webs or swinging ropes with a balancing rope below to cross. Miss 3 enjoyed having a go on all of these. If your kids love getting out on their bikes or scooters, Rendell Park is well worth a visit. Rendell Park features a scooter and bike track in a similar style to Shepherds Bush Park, with the track laid out like a mini road with little street signs and a roundabout. There’s a start and finish like like a race track, a wiggly road to navigate through the middle, and hills to coast down.
