Lake Gwelup is one of the few places in inner Perth where you can still find largely untouched bushland. The moment you step into this regional open space, you’ll be greeted by the soothing sounds of nature, as there’s so much birdlife to spot. Keep your eyes peeled and you may even spy a turtle!
On the southern side, you’ll find a viewing platform and a boardwalk that allows you to get up close with the local water birds. It’s a fantastic educational experience for kids, who can observe the various bird species that call this place home.
The sail-shaded sand-fall playground, found on the west side of the lake, is a hit with kids. Offering a fun space for them to play with traditional play equipment. You’ll find a range of amenities, including BBQ facilities and shady picnic shelters. Public toilets, by the playground are handy too for parents with young children. There’s loads of wide open grassed areas too.
The Play Trails app is available at Lake Gwelup, which offers an interactive and fun opportunity to connect with nature around the lake.
There’s even wind-up machines which tell facinating tales from the local Nyoongar people.
The open space features a well-laid-out 3.4km path network allows for scenic walks around the lake and wetlands. It’s a great way to explore the local flora and fauna while enjoying some quality family time.
