As a mum with three very curious children, I’m always on the lookout for unique experiences that combine education and fun. Recently, we visited Cockman House. Built in 1860, this historic gem offers a glimpse into the past and an opportunity for families to connect with the rich heritage of the Swan River Colony. Our visit was made even more exciting with The Play Trails App (by Nature Play), which brought the house and its captivating tales to life.
From the moment we stepped inside Cockman House, we were transported to a bygone era. The authentic architecture and interiors beautifully preserved the essence of the past. As we explored the rooms, we were immersed in the fascinating stories of the Cockman family who had called this place home for generations. It was truly remarkable to walk in their footsteps and gain a genuine understanding of what life was like in earlier times.
Cockman House provided a treasure trove of activities that captivated my kids. Their highlight was the opportunity to dress up in olden day clothes. They eagerly embraced the chance to wear the vintage garments and transformed into young members of the Cockman family. It was a joy to witness their excitement and imagination as they stepped into the shoes of those who lived here long ago.
Another highlight was the old-school games available at Cockman House. They had a blast playing bean bag toss, hula hoop, and wooden ten-pin bowling. The laughter and friendly competition brought an extra layer of fun to our visit. These games offered a glimpse into the pastimes enjoyed by families in earlier generations and reminded us of the simple joys in life.
My oldest became immersed in The Play Trails App (by Nature Play), she was captivated by the vivid storytelling and interactive features but her favourite part was completing all the different challenges. The app is available for download on both Google Play and the Apple Store.

Cockman House is open to the public every Sunday during autumn (March to May) and spring (September to November) from 1:30pm to 4:00pm. Entry is free.
