Chosen Grounds is a welcoming community café tucked inside the Chosen Church building in Kelmscott. It’s the kind of local spot that works well for parents with young children, especially when you’re looking for somewhere indoors where the kids can play while you enjoy a coffee and a bite to eat.

The café is open during the week and offers coffee, tea, cold drinks and treats in a relaxed, family-friendly setting. Chosen Grounds describes itself as more than just a café, with a strong focus on community, connection and creating a space where everyone feels welcome. It’s a handy option for a catch-up with friends, a mothers’ group meet-up, or a low-key morning out with the kids.

One of the big drawcards for families is the indoor Playground. Entry to the Playground is $5, and it gives children a space to burn off energy while parents sit nearby with a coffee.

There is also a separate toddler area for children under two, with a slide, puzzles and space for little ones to practise moving around safely away from the bigger kids.

The Playground is available for café guests, and Chosen Grounds asks visitors not to bring outside snacks. This helps support the café and keeps the space manageable for everyone using it. Food and drinks can be purchased onsite, with coffee options including cappuccino, flat white, latte, mocha, long black and espresso. There are also teas, chai, iced drinks, milkshakes, juice boxes, soft drinks and water available.

While located inside a church, the café warmly welcomes everyone and has created a supportive environment centred around community. Families, parents, youth and locals all come together through the different programs and gatherings held throughout the week. And for those hesitant, no, you are not approached by anyone to join the church, but I’m sure staff would be happy to ask any questions or direct you if you would like more information.

Chosen Grounds offers with a number of community programs. Mothers Group meets in the café on Thursdays at 10am during the school term, making it a lovely option for mums wanting a relaxed place to chat and connect. On Friday evenings during the school term, Junior Youth runs from 5pm to 6.30pm for school years 4, 5 and 6, followed by YC Youth from 7pm to 9pm for high school-aged students.

Another handy feature is that Chosen Grounds has a free gym available, so adults can make use of the facilities while visiting. It adds to the community feel of the venue and makes the space a little different from a standard café play centre.

Chosen Grounds also offers birthday party and venue hire options. Families can book exclusive access to the venue, with uncatered and catered packages available. The venue hire period is three hours, including set-up and clean-up, and includes a staff member to assist, plus access to a microphone and sound system. Catered parties include kids’ meals and drinks, with platters available to order separately with notice.

Because Chosen Grounds is located inside Chosen Church, it can be a little tricky to spot if you haven’t been before. Head to the Chosen Church building on Brant Road in Kelmscott and you’ll find the café inside. It’s a warm, community-minded space that’s particularly useful for families wanting an indoor play option with coffee close at hand.
