Aqualife Victoria Park

Aqualife in East Victoria Park is a fantastic all-round aquatic and fitness centre for families, whether youโ€™re popping in for a casual splash, regular swimming lessons or making the most of the gym and group fitness facilities. Conveniently located just off Albany Highway, itโ€™s part of the Town of Victoria Parkโ€™s leisure network (along with Leisurelife), so thereโ€™s a strong community feel, regular programs and up-to-date facilities.

The indoor leisure pool is a highlight for young families. Starting from true beachโ€‘style zero depth and gradually deepening to around 0.7m, itโ€™s perfect for toddlers and early swimmers to splash and play. The bright dinosaur mural and fun water features spurting into the pool add to the excitement, while turtles and starfish in the floor tiles give kids something to spot under the water.

At one end thereโ€™s a small round โ€œspaโ€ area with bubbling water and a bench seat โ€“ more of a fun bubble zone for kids than a true hot spa, but a real favourite with underโ€‘5s. Do be aware that Aqualife is quite strict on supervision; children under 5 must be closely supervised and within armโ€™s reach, and staff will remind you if youโ€™re too far away. There is seating dotted around the pools, but you might find yourself standing poolside to stay next to your child.

Alongside the leisure pool is the 25m, 6โ€‘lane indoor lap pool with a uniform depth of around 1.2m. Lanes are clearly designated for different uses โ€“ laps, walking, lessons and general swimming โ€“ and the centre publishes upโ€‘toโ€‘date pool lane availability online so you can check how busy itโ€™s likely to be before you go. Thereโ€™s ramp access into this pool for prams, wheelchairs and anyone who prefers a gentle entry.

Also in the indoor aquatic area youโ€™ll find the hydro pool, spa and steam room, which are included if you hold an Aquatics membership. For families, thereโ€™s a wellโ€‘equipped family change room with shower and change table in addition to the standard male and female change rooms, which makes getting wriggly toddlers dry and dressed a lot easier.

Outside, Aqualife has a full 50m, 8โ€‘lane pool, heated to around 27 degrees. The depth ranges roughly from 1.4m to 1.97m, so this one is definitely for confident swimmers rather than toddlers. Itโ€™s a great option for older kids wanting to train or practise their strokes, and for parents who want to swim laps in the fresh air.

Around the pool there are a few sun lounges and a good amount of grass shaded by trees โ€“ ideal for setting up with a towel and snacks and making a mini morning of it in the warmer months. During summer, Aqualife extends its weekend hours, with the gym and pools open until 6pm on Saturdays and Sundays, which is handy for an afternoon dip after sport or a hot day out.

One of the familyโ€‘friendly touches that sets Aqualife apart is the outdoor play and picnic area. Just outside the centre thereโ€™s a space with tables and chairs under cover, lawn and a neat Playground.

Before or after your swim, kids can enjoy the double swing (with both toddler and standard seats), a climbing frame, monkey bars, a slide, a small flying fox and more. Shade sails cover most of the equipment and the whole area is on soft fall, which is reassuring for parents of enthusiastic climbers.

Beyond the pools, Aqualife has a modern gym and a large range of group fitness classes if youโ€™re looking to combine your own workout with a kidsโ€™ swim or the onโ€‘site crรจche. The timetable includes Les Mills favourites like BODYPUMP, BODYATTACK, BODYBALANCE, RPM and BODYCOMBAT, as well as yoga, Pilates, dance and aqua fit classes in the pool. There are also Aqua Deep, Aqua Resistance and a variety of Aqua Fit sessions, which are a great lowโ€‘impact option for parents getting back into exercise. The centre runs special wellbeing offerings such as Sound Healing Sessions, plus a range of senior and postnatal/family fitness programs through the broader Victoria Park Leisure network.

The swim school operates yearโ€‘round with structured programs for all ages: infant and preschool, schoolโ€‘age stages, teen and adult lessons, junior lifeguard and specific classes for people with complex needs. VacSwim is also hosted at Aqualife in the summer school holidays, giving schoolโ€‘age kids extra intensive practice in a familiar environment. Bookings and level information are handled through the leisure website, which also covers FAQs, level selectors and options for class transfers or cancellations.

For parents wanting regular access, memberships can be a costโ€‘effective way to make the most of the centre. An โ€œAquaticsโ€ membership provides access to all the pools including hydro, spa and steam, while โ€œAll Accessโ€ memberships include gym, aquatic, group fitness classes and offโ€‘peak court access at both Aqualife and Leisurelife, plus free crรจche during set times. If youโ€™re more of an occasional visitor, casual entry and visit passes are available too; current prices and any concession options are listed under Entry Fees on the official site. Do note that last entry to the pools is typically 30 minutes prior to closing time.

Accessibility has been considered throughout the venue, with ramp access to key pools, accessible entries, and a focus on inclusive programming through complex needs swim classes and community health and wellbeing partnerships. The website notes specific accessibility information and you can always call ahead to ask about particular requirements or quiet times if your child is sensoryโ€‘sensitive.

Overall, Aqualife Victoria Park is a versatile, familyโ€‘friendly aquatic centre that suits everything from babyโ€™s first splash to serious lap training, with the bonus of a Playground and strong community programs. Whether youโ€™re there for weekly lessons or just an occasional weekend swim, itโ€™s a great option for families in and around Victoria Park.
