The Alinta Energy Christmas Pageant is my absolute favourite event of the year!
The most magical night of the year is happening on Saturday 6th December 2025. New this year: the pageant starts at 7:00pm and wraps up around 9:00pm. We like to head in early to claim a comfy spot and soak up the festive buzz.
I always bring a picnic rug, plenty of water, snacks, jackets, blankets and pavement chalk for my kids — they love drawing all over the road while we wait. If you have a small child, I’d recommend a stroller or a beach trolley to save your arms later in the night. For people with sensory sensitivities, remember earplugs or noise‑cancelling headphones — the pageant music will be loud.
Although the start line at William Street is a popular spot to watch, it’s not always the best viewing. The prime location is east of the start line, along St Georges Terrace and William Street, all the way to the corner of St Georges Terrace and Victoria Avenue. There’s no public viewing west of the start line, so definitely head east if you can. For safety, please don’t sit on the kerb or road edge when roads are open — we pop the kids at the front behind the blue line and stand behind them so everyone can see.
The pageant features a magical mix of dancers, entertainers, bands, cultural groups and favourite costume characters — and of course, the star of the show… Santa and his reindeers!
A few handy need‑to‑knows:
- It’s an alcohol‑free event.
- Please don’t bring chairs (a picnic rug or cushion is perfect).
- Pets aren’t permitted, except for assistance animals.
Accessibility
- There’s an accessible viewing area on the northern side of St Georges Terrace between Victoria Avenue and Irwin Street, close to accessible toilets on Irwin Street. Check the official route map here: Download Map (PDF).
- ACROD parking is available at City of Perth Parking (CPP) car parks.
Getting there and parking
- Public transport will be running, but some bus routes will be impacted by road closures. Plan ahead using the Transperth App or Journey Planner.
- If you’re driving, CPP offers 3 hours free parking at participating car parks — check locations and live bay availability: City of Perth Parking. There’s limited access across St Georges Terrace during the event, so give yourself extra time.
Safety, first aid and lost children
- Please follow the directions from SES Volunteers, Security and Event Staff — your safety is their priority.
- First aid services are located throughout the precinct (see the map for exact spots).
- Constable Care will have four “Family Meeting Points and Lost Child Safety Stops” along the route. My tip: snap a quick photo of your child before leaving home and pick up a Constable Care wristband on arrival to write your contact details.
Help keep our city sparkling
- Scouts volunteers will be handing out Keep Australia Beautiful rubbish bags. We always take one — it makes pack‑up so much easier — or simply take your rubbish with you.
Pageant-goers are encouraged to dress the part from head to toe — think bells, baubles and a big red nose. Santa’s helpers are always out and about snapping pics, so dress to impress!
