No matter your age, so many people can’t eat gluten these days, me included! For those of us who need to avoid gluten because of coeliac disease or tummy troubles, Dough Street in Perth’s north is like a magical unicorn – a 100% gluten-free bakery where we don’t have to “settle” for different options, but instead get to discover yummy new favorites.
The bakery is super popular, so there are often lines of people waiting, but if you visit mid-morning on weekdays, you won’t have to wait as long. The lines move quickly, giving you plenty of time to eye up the cabinet and decide what tasty treats you want to take home. I’ve seen people leave with huge trays of goodies lol
There are tables inside, but on busy weekends you might be sitting next to people waiting in line, so it’s not the cosiest place to stay and eat. I usually get my GF goodies to-go and enjoy them in my car.
Their baked treats prove that gluten-free can be super delicious. Trust me, everything is WAY better than anything GF you can buy at Coles or Woolies (don’t even bother). Everyone loves their cinnamon scrolls, and they’re always creating new and exciting treats.
I visited just before Easter and tried a hot cross bun and a mini egg cookie. They were yummy, though the hot cross bun was a bit soft, sticky and doughy for me.
Their sausage rolls are amazing – with flaky pastry that’s usually so hard to find when you’re eating gluten-free. They were hot, meaty, and everything I’ve been missing for over 8 years. I should have bought two.
Their croissants are almost as good as regular ones too. I tried a “crookie” – croissant-cookie hybrid. Dough Street jumps on a lot of those trending foods – so you don’t have to miss out – happy days!
The friendly staff are super helpful and patient, even when they’re really busy. Finding parking can be tricky during busy times, but there’s usually a spot or two in the car park. If you or your child can’t eat gluten (or just choose not to), Dough Street is a special place where you can eat anything on the menu – no restrictions. I’ll definitely be back for more Dough Street gluten-free goodness!
