Heading to Whiteman Park, but not organised enough to pack a picnic? Same! Luckily for me, the Village Cafe is a solid choice for brunch, lunch and takeaways.

Whiteman Park’s Village Café is an easy, no-fuss spot for a bite to eat with kiddos in tow. Located in the village area, it’s perfectly placed opposite the small pool and the Village East playground.

There’s plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, and it’s a lovely place to sit back with a milkshake or coffee while watching the trams roll by. That alone keeps kids entertained for far longer than you’d expect! The casual cafe has that classic Whiteman Park atmosphere: families coming and going, bikes whizzing past, trams clanging along and plenty happening without it feeling too hectic.

We were there for brunch, before a play at Pia’s Place and bushwalk around the Children’s Forest. The all day brekkie menu has lots of family-friendly favourites, from all-day breakfast options through to burgers, salads and cabinet cakes.

The kids pancakes are a definite winner, all three of them were very enthusiastic, with the JMan particularly enjoying the berry compote and maple syrup covering the fluffy pancakes.

Caramel and strawberry milkshakes went down a treat too.

For the grown-ups, the coffee is good, and there are plenty of brunch-style choices if you’re after something more substantial than a quick snack. Breakfast burgers, eggs benny and more.

I really enjoyed the potato hash stack (GF), with bacon, avo and runny poached eggs, topped with a buttery holandaise – a really tasty dish.

Mr H lapped up the big breakfast – eggs your way, chipolatas (he loved the flavour of these), bacon, hashbrowns, roast mushroom, grilled tomato, wilted spinach and a couple of slices of toasted sourdough.

It’s also really handy for grabbing takeaway snacks, cold drinks or an ice cream before heading off to explore more of the park. Whether you’re about to jump on the tram, visit the playground, cool off at the pool or explore the Motor Museum next door, it’s nice having everything close by.

The café is family and dog-friendly, with parking nearby and wheelchair access, making it an easy option for groups, prams and grandparents too. On weekends, it’s worth arriving a little earlier if you can, especially on a sunny day when Whiteman Park is buzzing. It wasn’t too busy for brunch, but the queue was much longer at lunch time.

Whiteman Park Café is open 7 days. Find menus on the Whiteman Park Café website. A great spot to refuel, enjoy a relaxed brunch and make a full day of it at one of Perth’s favourite family parks.
