Planning a play at Glen Forrest’s much-loved Morgan John Morgan Park? Also known as the “Train Park”, make sure you leave room for morning tea at delicious cafe, Glen Forrest Gourmet.

Conveniently located directly opposite the park on Railway Parade, this friendly local café is an easy choice for families. You can let the kids burn off some energy climbing, swinging and, of course, exploring the iconic train-themed playground, then wander across the road for a well-earned coffee and cake break. The park is also right on the Railway Reserves Heritage Trail, so it’s a brilliant pit stop whether you’re walking, scooting or cycling through the Perth Hills.

I’ve popped into GFG many times for a coffee on the run. Each time, their cabinet is STACKED with fresh bakes. They have a different line up every time I visit.

Inside Glen Forrest Gourmet, there’s a little toy and book corner, with a blackboard, to keep small hands occupied while you enjoy your cuppa. The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming.

There’s plenty of high chairs, plus babycinos, kids mikshakes and more.

Coffee lovers are in good hands here. Glen Forrest Gourmet serves ethically sourced coffee roasted locally in Perth, and they work with local dairy suppliers and bakeries too. Pair your coffee with one of the fresh cakes in the cabinet and you’ve got yourself a simply lovely morning tea, though choosing just one sweet treat can be tricky. Last time I enjoyed a GF veggie muffin, which was moist and very tasty.

If morning tea turns into brunch, there are plenty of breakfast options available, plus lunch if you decide to stay a little longer. It’s also handy for takeaways, especially if the kids are keen to get straight back to the park.
For families wanting to make a morning of it, pop next door to Hillside Cycles, where bike hire is available, then explore the nearby trails. There’s also a new jump track next to the train park for older kids and bike-loving families to check out.
