If you’re on the lookout for a family-friendly pub north of Perth, the Ocean View Tavern in Neerabup is a great spot to check out. We’ve visited a few times now, as it’s on the way home from Yanchep National Park. Perched up high on Wanneroo Road, it lives up to its name with views across to the coastline – and just as importantly, it’s set up to keep the kids entertained while you relax.
The sunny beer garden is where families will want to settle in. There’s plenty of space and the big drawcard for little ones – bouncy castles! The kids headed straight there, burning off endless energy while we had a look at the menu and ordered lunch. We’re not sure how often the bouncy castles are there, so check ahead.
For something quieter at the table, the colouring/activity packs ($2.50) are a lifesaver too. Handy to keep little hands busy while you wait for food.
The boys had a game of pool too, for $2.
On the menu, the kids’ meals are really decent – and not just the usual deep-fried afterthoughts.
They tucked into mac and cheese bites, a burger, and some super crunchy house-made chicken that went down a treat – all came with chips.
That chicken was impressive – fresh, well-seasoned and gobbled up in minutes by Master 11. Definitely got the thumbs up. The kids meals come with a juice box, which we didn’t realise, as they never came out with the meals. 
For the grown-ups, there’s the expected pub classics with a few healthier options too. Mr H tucked into a smash burger that disappeared almost as quickly as the kids’ meals, while I went with a teriyaki chicken poke bowl. It was fresh, full of avo, edamame beans, cherry tomatoes, carrot and more, and left me feeling like I made the healthy choice.
The only downside we noticed – the beer garden had quite a few people smoking and vaping, including pretty close to where the kids were jumping on the bouncy castles. Otherwise, it’s a brilliant family spot.
With stunning views, tasty food, and easy entertainment for kids, the Ocean View Tavern is a solid pick for a weekend lunch or sunset dinner in the northern ‘burbs.
