The State Library of WA has a very special area dedicated for children’s activities called The Story Place. It is a gated and enclosed space located on the second floor with vibrant colours, walls lined with activity boards and children’s reading nooks.
The area hosts free activities such as Rhyme Time and Story Time. We attended the lively Rhyme Time session, designed for babies and toddlers, fostering language development through songs and rhymes. It is an excellent way for little ones to enhance their early literacy skills while parents and caregivers bond with their children.
After the session, we headed to Ground + Co for lunch. Located on the ground floor of the library, this cafe offers indoor and outdoor seating, a range of meals including vegan and vegetarian options.
One of the stand out features of the cafe is its tranquil outdoor space, where shallow pools line the back area. Though it’s not recommended for paddling this was the perfect spot for us to dip our toes in and relax with friends. The gentle flow of water and the peaceful surroundings create an ideal environment to unwind, making it a lovely inclusion to the library.
Ground + Co is committed to social change, particularly in helping those experiencing homelessness. By enjoying a meal here, patrons are not only treating themselves but contributing to a meaningful cause. With the convenience of being at the State Library where you can enjoy multiple activities with the kids, Ground + Co is an added relaxing space where every coffee makes a difference.
