Discovery Parks – Woodman Point is a brilliant coastal base for families wanting an easy escape close to Perth, with the bonus of being just a short drive from Fremantle. Tucked away in Munster, the park has that classic “bushy by the beach” feel, but with plenty of modern comforts, activities and facilities to keep kids busy from morning to night.
Accommodation is a mix of powered sites and a range of cabin options, so you can camp, caravan or go for chalet-style comfort. If camping isn’t really your thing, the air-conditioned cabins are a great alternative, giving you all the fun of a holiday park without giving up your creature comforts. Many families also choose Woodman Point as a first-time camping destination because it’s so close to home and has everything you need on hand.
The park is set up really well for kids. The swimming pool is a huge hit on warm days and sits alongside a shaded Playground and a big bouncing pillow, which quickly becomes the social hub of the park.

The whole park has a strict speed limit of walking pace, which means kids can safely ride their bikes and scooters around the internal roads, and parents can relax a little more.

There’s a large camp kitchen with BBQs, sinks, fridges and indoor seating, making it easy to prepare meals even if the weather turns. Laundry facilities and clotheslines are available, and there are family-friendly bathrooms and accessible options, which is especially helpful if you’re travelling with little ones or grandparents. There’s also a small kiosk/store on site for basic supplies and ice creams.
One of the biggest drawcards of Woodman Point is how close it is to the beach. From the back of the park you can follow a paved pathway through the coastal reserve for about 1km to reach the sand. It’s a lovely, easy walk or ride, suitable for prams and bikes. Along the way, if you keep your eyes peeled, you may spot remnants of the old military defences in the dunes, which older kids often find fascinating. Head right along the paths and you’ll find a large, well-equipped Playground with good shade and another short path down to the beach.
The nearby Woodman Point Ammo Jetty is popular for fishing, sunset walks and just soaking up the ocean views. With direct beach access from the park and the calm waters of this part of the coast, it’s a great spot for sand play, paddling and beach games with younger kids. During warmer months you can also make the most of the coastal lifestyle by hiring SUPs or other water gear from local operators in the wider area.
Being so close to Fremantle is another big plus. In around 15 minutes you can be in the heart of Freo, exploring the markets, grabbing fish and chips at the harbour, visiting the WA Maritime Museum or just wandering the streets and cafés. Rockingham is also an easy drive away if you fancy a day out by the foreshore or want to book a wildlife cruise. Back at the park, you return to a quieter, more natural setting among the trees – the best of both worlds.

With its mix of cabins and camping, kid-friendly facilities, beach access and proximity to Fremantle, it works just as well for a quick weekend away as it does for a longer stay.
