If you’re dreaming of an off-grid country getaway with serious aesthetic vibes, you need to check out Candlelight Country Experience in Kukerin, about three and a half hours southeast of Perth.
Located on a stunning 600-acre working farm, it is the ultimate screen-free family reset. We stayed in their incredible signature combo package, which is a beautifully styled retro camping van paired with a genius converted horse float-and-tent setup.
Having both means you get a completely private camp layout where the kids get a quirky, independent sleeping space right next to yours. They also have a larger family glamping tent and spacious DIY unpowered sites for the real camping feel.
The site sits right on the edge of a pine forest overlooking open pastures, so you can drink your morning coffee while the kids spot the farm horses and sheep.
Days are spent exploring the bush tracks and wildflowers, and nights are all about private campfires and stargazing. With zero light pollution, it is officially one of WA’s top spots to view the Milky Way.
Horse feeding is daily, and for an extra special touch, you can even pre-book a warm outdoor bath, a night in the pines or a projector package for the ultimate experience.
Because it is a true nature-based camp, parents just need to do a little standard camp prep. There is no mains power, so you will need to pack power banks, your own towels, drinking water, and ice for the provided esky. There is Optus and Telstra coverage, although we found Telstra to be 10x better. The shared amenities are basic but clean, featuring a central Portaloo and a warm bush shower. The property is easily reached in a standard 2WD family SUV, and dogs can join the adventure for free.
We give Candlelight Country Experience a perfect 5 out of 5 stars. Trading the iPad screens for a retro van, a horse float, and a sky full of stars is pure magic. The unique setups, complete peace, and unforgettable country memories make it worth every bit of effort.
