If you’re on the hunt for a brand new indoor play centre in Perth’s northern suburbs, Axo’s Playland in Balcatta is one that absolutely deserves a spot on your list. Housed in a completely transformed space, this vibrant, modern venue is enormous and thoughtfully designed to cater for children from babies right through to tweens, and it genuinely delivers on all fronts.

From the moment you walk in, it is clear this place has been built with families in mind. The layout is bright, colourful and clean, with clearly defined zones that make it easy to navigate and keep an eye on the kids. Entry is one flat fee with unlimited playtime, which means you can settle in and stay as long as you like without watching the clock.

For the youngest visitors, the dedicated toddler zone for ages 0 to 4 is a real highlight. Wristbands are required for entry, giving parents peace of mind while little ones explore soft play equipment including rockers, slides, barrels, climbing steps, spinning seats, a ball pit and wall activity panels. It is a safe, enclosed space that lets toddlers roam freely without the worry of bigger kids charging through.

The imaginative Play Town is another wonderful feature, especially for the preschool crowd. Children can step into a fire station, vet clinic, doctor’s surgery or beauty parlour, which is perfect for hours of creative, role play fun. Add in a bike track with pedal trikes and ride ons, and the little ones are well and truly catered for.

For older kids aged 4 and up, the main play structure is seriously impressive. Spanning three levels, it is packed with obstacles, ropes, swings, tunnels and lookouts, plus a flying fox, a mirror maze and not one but four slides. These include two winding tunnel slides, a rainbow LED racer slide and an LED horn tunnel slide.

The 9 section ninja course is a standout feature, with parkour style challenges including Roman rings, tyre swing steps, moving platforms and rope challenges, all with soft fall flooring beneath.

The construction zone is another gem, featuring a fenced area with building bricks that offers open ended, no time limit play. It is the kind of activity kids keep coming back to throughout the visit.

There is also a rock climbing wall and a Rubix cube climber for those who love a physical challenge.

One of the most exciting additions, and a first for Australia, is the 360 degree bike ride where riders can literally cycle upside down. While this feature often awaits final certification and harness delivery in new centres, once open it is going to be an absolute drawcard for thrill seekers. A rock climbing tower is also still to come, so there is even more to look forward to on future visits.

The facilities are excellent throughout. There is a picnic style seating area with toddler tables, comfortable seating for parents, and an on site café serving up good coffee and food.

Four party rooms are available for bookings, and exclusive weekend hire is available from 4:30pm for those wanting the whole space to themselves. The venue can hold up to 260 people, so while it can get busy, there is genuinely plenty of room to spread out.

A 10 pass frequent visitor card is available to help save on entry fees, which is great value if you plan to make this a regular outing. Socks are required for all children, so do not forget to pack a pair. For the quietest experience, aim to arrive around 9am or head in after lunch.

Whether it is a rainy day, school holidays or just a Tuesday that needs a bit of adventure, Axo’s Playland is a well designed, all ages venue that ticks every box, and with more features still on the way, it is only going to get better.
