It’s easy to get lost in the beauty of the Margaet River region, especially if you visit Amaze’n Margaret River! This fun spot is found just a few minutes’ drive south of the Margaret River town. Here, the main attraction is a giant hedge maze, with a whopping 1.5kms worth of pathways to get lost in. As well as the huge maze, there’s an 18-hole mini golf course, lots of smaller mazes and plenty more challenging activities.
We put on our wristbands, through the gate and headed toward the tall hedges. Before entering the maze, it’s worth remembering to have a toilet stop and slip slop slap in sunny weather – you might be stuck in the maze for quite some time!
The traditional hedge maze is MASSIVE!
The tall green hedges look exactly the same at every turn, making it a very challenging maze.
It’s easy to begin to wonder “have I already been this way?!”, which only adds to the fun challenge.
All paths are stroller and wheelchair accessible. The kids teamed up against us adults to see who could make it to the wooden tower in the center first. The kids won – which took them a good 25 minutes or so!
We had a breather on the lookout tower, then set off through a different route to find our way out. This also took a little time and was great fun.
If you get completely bamboozled, there is an emergency exit. There are benches throughout the maze, to have a break. As well as the gigantic main hedge maze, there are a couple of smaller, tricky mazes to conquer.
There’s a mind boggling left hand turn only maze, a colour stepping stone maze, a rose maze and a brick maze that goes around and around a small hill.
The gardens and pond are wonderful and beautifully maintained. I hadn’t visited for about 7 years and it was lovely to see how they have grown and matured. There’s lots to discover if you follow the little pathways, gnomes, statues, giant chess and giant draughts too.
Afterwards, why not challenge the kids to a fun game of mini golf?
The shady 18-hole course is an extra fee, per person, to play.
There are plenty of obstacles and challenges to keep things interesting for all ages.
Feeling peckish after all that activity? The café serves coffee as well as light meals, cakes and ice-cream.
The kids had definitely burned off a lot of energy, so we treated them to a scoop of local Simmos ice cream.
Bubblegum for the win!
For cooler days, there are plenty of tables inside and comfy lounges. The outside deck area is lovely to sit in warmer weather.
Puzzles and board games will keep kids occupied, and there’s plenty for sale too.
Like to BYO picnic? On the shady grassed area there are picnic tables and barbeques. It’s a lovely spot to throw down a rug. The toilets are clean and there are parent room and change facilities.
Here there is also a bocce area, hopscotch, giant jenga, lots of grass to run around.
There’s even a children’s playground.
By the café entrance, there’s sporting equipment, balls, hula hoops, skippning ropes, frisbees etc to borrow.
There’s so much to do – a visit to this spot sure is an Amaze’n family day out!
