Walter’s River Café is perfectly positioned right beside Dyoondalup Point Walter Playground, making it an ideal spot for families visiting Point Walter Reserve. The Playground is literally alongside the café, so if you have older children you can relax with a coffee or a meal while still keeping an eye on them as they play.

The café offers a breakfast menu until 11.30am and a separate lunch menu, with kids’ meal options on both.

We ordered the kids’ cheeseburger and chips ($13), which was a decent‑sized burger and great for hungry little tummies, as well as the Lemon and Pepper Calamari Plate for something a bit lighter.
There’s an extensive drinks menu, including a wine list, plus freshly squeezed juices and coffee. We enjoyed a freshly squeezed orange juice and a babycino.

While you wait for your food, the kids can stay busy with colouring sheets provided by the café – a helpful extra for families.

Inside, Walter’s River Café is spacious with plenty of indoor seating, as well as a veranda area that looks out towards the reserve and Playground.

There’s a tempting selection of cakes and daily bakes on the shelf if you’re after a treat. Family‑friendly facilities are well covered, with toilets and a nappy change station located inside the café. Next door, a kiosk serves takeaway coffee and ice cream, perfect if you’d rather stay closer to the play area or the foreshore.

Point Walter Reserve itself is a fantastic family destination, with calm swimming spots, BBQ pits, picnic tables, public toilets, a quick rinse area and free parking. Combined with the convenience of having Walter’s River Café right next to the Dyoondalup Point Walter Playground, it’s a great choice for a relaxed family day out where parents can unwind while the kids play within sight.
