Renowned Melbourne street artist Rone has brought his latest exhibition TIME. RONE to the Art Gallery of Western Australia (AGWA). Following a successful sell-out season in Melbourne last year at the Flinders Street Station, we knew we couldn’t miss this!

The exhibition spans two floors of the historic Centenary Galleries and features his signature murals, giving visitors an immersive sensory art experience like never before!

The kids were excited to check out the Centenary Galleries as they are rarely open to the public.

TIME depicts the forgotten Australian working-class life in the 1950s, when many manufacturing industries were blooming.

The first room we saw was the workroom. The dim lights with the well-accompanied music set the mood straight away- you catch a glimpse of the past and wonder how much time has passed.

The girls were enticed by the many old sewing machines and how real the cobwebs and dust were!

They were just amazed by the detailed props made of old artefacts and fixtures for each room, asking what they were and what they did.

Some rooms do get quite dark, so little kids might find it scary, but my girls were just immersed in the experience, wondering what happened and making up stories about the scene.

The girls’ favourite room was the library- they said it felt like they were in Dumbledore’s Library!

On the ground floor is a gallery where visitors can have some quiet time, sit down, and enjoy the scene in print.

In total, we took about 1 and a half hours to finish all 12 rooms. We really enjoyed it, and it has to be one of the best immersive sensory experiences we have had this year.

You can share your thoughts in the memento book at the end. It was lovely to see guides around the galleries asking the kids how they felt about the exhibition and what they enjoyed and spending time explaining to them.

There is a pop-up store on exiting the exhibition where you can buy a memento of your visit.

Toilets and lifts are located in the building. Kids are reminded not to touch the exhibit and guides are around supervising the rooms. No food and drinks are allowed in the galleries, but you can visit the café at AGWA after your visit. And while you are there, don’t forget to check out the rest of the free exhibits at AGWA.

Tickets are available online with time slots allocated to them, staggering the entry times to restrict the number of patrons in the galleries.
