When it comes to street art and graffiti, there is one name known all around the world—Banksy. Since his first large-scale mural in 1999, his art has spoken out against societal problems, political unrest, and immigration prejudices. While some of the themes can be heavy, they are presented in a way that can still be appreciated by tweens/teens and adults alike.
A new exhibition, The Art of Banksy: “Without Limits, is on display now in Perth. It showcases over 200 of the artist’s works, with one of them being his iconic “Balloon Girl”. The display consists of a mixture of 95 original pieces and stencilled recreations (due to the location and size of some of his murals).
Supporting the prints and murals on the walls are large sculptures and video projections, with a highlight being the “room of mirrors” where the viewer is surrounded by images of the artworks.
Kids will love to spot the little rats dotted around the gallery, while adults will be trying to work out the real identity of Banksy!
Of course, like any exhibition, exit is via the gift shop (a little nod to Banksy’s 2010 documentary of the same name). If you’d prefer a more DIY souvenir, the Premium ticket gives you the chance to spray paint your own t-shirt using Banksy stencils! (hot tip- if you’re doing this, spray your t-shirt first so it can dry while you enjoy the exhibition).
