Looking for the perfect family day out that combines sightseeing, beach fun, and hassle-free transport? The Coastal Explorer Bus is your answer! This fantastic open-top double-decker bus experience runs daily from Barrack Street Jetty in Perth, offering families a wonderful way to explore Perth’s stunning Sunset Coast without the stress of driving or parking.
The Coastal Explorer Bus runs weekends from 6th January to 23rd February. Departing the city at 9:30am, the journey takes you along Perth’s coastal route. The elevated position of the top deck provides clear ocean views, and you might spot dolphins in the waves during your journey.
Scarborough Beach is the first major destination, featuring the recently developed foreshore area. Here you’ll find Western Australia’s only beachside geothermally heated pool, alongside the Whale Playground with its skate park, and climbing wall. The beach itself offers safe swimming between the flags, and there are plenty of cafes and restaurants along the strip for lunch or snacks.
Continuing north through Trigg, North Beach, Watermans Bay, and Marmion, the bus reaches Hillarys Boat Harbour. This popular spot includes a sheltered swimming beach, seasonal inflatable water park, and AQWA (Aquarium of Western Australia). AQWA features Australia’s largest single aquarium and an underwater tunnel where you can watch sharks swim overhead (entry fees apply).
The service runs six daily round trips between Scarborough and Hillarys, allowing you to explore at your own pace. The final bus returns to Perth CBD, arriving around 4:30pm.
