Just under an hour’s drive south of Perth, Serpentine is an easy countryside escape that feels a world away from the city. Tasman Holiday Parks – Serpentine Falls (formerly Serpentine Falls Caravan Park) sits on the doorstep of the Darling Ranges and Serpentine National Park, making it a great base for a relaxing family break full of nature, wildlife and fresh air.

The park itself is neat, tidy and thoughtfully laid out, with shady trees and well‑kept gardens creating a peaceful bush setting. Families can choose from a range of options to suit their style and budget, from powered and unpowered caravan and camping sites to cosy cabins and modern holiday homes that sleep up to four people, complete with onsite parking and all the essential comforts.

If you prefer traditional caravanning or tent camping, the spacious sites are set amongst mature trees so you don’t feel packed in, and many of the sites are dog‑friendly, so the family pooch can come along too.

On site you’ll find everything you need for an easy stay with kids. There are clean amenities blocks, a laundry and a camp kitchen, plus an undercover BBQ area where you can cook dinner while the children explore nearby. The swimming pool is a big hit in the warmer months; it’s not heated, but on hot days it’s a welcome way to cool off and unwind after exploring.

The park also offers bike and scooter trails within the grounds, giving kids a safe space to ride around, and in the cooler months families can enjoy cosy winter campfires in designated areas, which is perfect for toasting marshmallows under the stars. Reception is on hand to help with local tips, and there’s a roadhouse just a short stroll away that sells holiday essentials and has a café open until mid‑afternoon, ideal if you need a coffee or an easy lunch without getting back in the car.

One of the biggest drawcards is how close the park is to some of the Perth Hills’ best natural attractions. Serpentine Falls and Serpentine National Park are just a short drive away. From the main car park, it’s only a brief walk on a sealed path to reach the falls, which makes it accessible for prams and wheelchairs. There is a large picnic area with BBQs and plenty of lawn, so it’s easy to spend a half‑day here swimming in the natural pool in warmer weather or simply enjoying a picnic surrounded by kangaroos and birdlife. There are also a number of bushwalking trails that start from the national park, including more challenging hikes for families with older kids. Do be aware there is an entry fee for the national park, so it’s worth checking current prices and any booking requirements before you go.

The surrounding region offers plenty of other family‑friendly outings. Jarrahdale, a historic timber town a short drive away, is home to the Jarrahdale Tavern, which is known for having one of the best kids’ areas in Perth. The beer garden overlooks a large, fenced outdoor Playground that suits a range of ages, so parents can relax over a meal or drink while the kids burn off energy. On weekends you’ll often find a lively atmosphere, and there’s sometimes live music adding to the country‑pub feel.

For animal lovers, Cohunu Koala Park is also within easy reach. While there are only a small number of koalas and photos with them cost extra, families can meet and feed a wide variety of other animals that roam the park. There’s also a mini train ride for an additional fee, which is a fun way for younger children to see more of the grounds.

Tasman Holiday Park Serpentine Falls works well for both quick weekenders and longer stays. You can spend one day exploring the falls and national park, another discovering Jarrahdale and Millbrook Winery, and still have time to relax by the pool or around the campfire back at the park. With its combination of flexible accommodation, kid‑friendly facilities and easy access to nature, it’s a great option for Perth families wanting an uncomplicated getaway that still feels like a proper holiday.
