Golf is BACK at Burswood Park! It seems like a long time since a golf course dominated this area, not Optus Stadium, but now there’s a super fun mini golf course to enjoy. Matagarup Mini Golf, from the legends behind Matagarup Zip+Climb, is a brand-new attraction that’s sure to tick the boxes for a fun family activity. It’s also a great idea for a group activity with friends or for date night.ย
The course welcomes players of all ages and skill levels. For the kiddos, it is best suited for kids over 5 years old, so it will hold their attention. There’s also lots of water around, so be mindful of that, if you have little ones in tow.ย
Matagarup Mini Golf is found between the Matagarup Zip+Climb and The Camfield pub. Set against the backdrop of the Swan River and the iconic Matagarup Bridge, the course is designed to incorporate the natural beauty of its West Aussie surroundings.
Grab a putter, colourful golf ball, scorecard and head for the first hole where you choose between putting to the challenging or easier holes (red or blue flags). There are bunkers, water hazards, rough areas, humps, bumps, bridges, tunnels and more, to keep each hole a challenge.ย
There’s beautiful sculptures of kangaroos and swans, as well as a few surf boards and even a mini Matagarup Bridge to (hopefully!) putt across and finish off the last hole!ย
At Matagarup Mini Golf, they have designed the course with inclusivity in mind. The venue features smooth pathways providing easy access to each hole, so that everyone can join in on the fun. The front nine holes have been specially designed to be fully accessible for wheelchair users (and strollers), offering two different routes to play for a total of 18 holes of fun.ย
We found the course really challenging, which is great. There are only a few holes where you might be lucky enough to score a hole in one. The water hazards wind through the course too, and there are plenty of scoops around to retrieve your ball (which we had to use). Can you spot the mini Horizontal Falls or the Pinnacles?ย
There is a little shade around from the trees, but it’s definitely wise to slip, slop, slap. Many native trees have been planted around the course, so in years to come, they will provide lots of shade.
Being so close to Optus Stadium, it’s a good idea to check for events before you visit (especially in footy season), as parking on game days will be challenging. On a non-event day, I easily parked right opposite the course, where the event busses usually stop.ย
Afterwards, why not grab a bite to eat at The Camfield? A cafe is currently being constructed next to the mini golf course too.
And don’t forget about the two amazing playgrounds at Burswood Park – the Sensory Playground and the huge Chevron Parklands. This area really is worthy of a day out.ย
For the mini golf, walk ups are welcome, but it is advisable to book on their website. Seasonal opening times will vary, but the course will also be open in the evenings. And if you haven’t already – experience the thrill of the Matagarup zip line!ย
So, why not grab a putter and tee off at Perth’s newest mini golf course? We really enjoyed it, it brought out our competitive spirit and provided plenty of lols. Be sure to take the family along to Matagarup Mini Golf – it’s a “hole” load of fun!ย
