Looking for a fun, fuss-free family outing near Perth? Cold Rock Ice Creamery in Scarborough is a sweet little gem worth checking out — especially if you’ve got kids in tow. Located just 20 minutes west of the city at 148 The Esplanade, this beachside ice cream shop is a great stop after some coastal exploring or playtime.
When we visited, the staff member on duty was warm, welcoming, and patient as our little one took his time choosing from the colourful selection of flavours on display.
While Cold Rock is known for its mix-ins and combo creations, we kept it simple this time and each chose a single scoop to enjoy. Between us, we sampled the Biscoff, banana, and bubblegum flavours — and every one was a hit. The bubblegum scoop had our toddler grinning from ear to ear, while the Biscoff had a rich, spiced sweetness that Nan really enjoyed.
The banana was creamy and fresh, and a great option for kids who like something fruity but not too intense – which my bubs had a taste of and loved.
Once our ice creams were polished off, we took a short stroll across to Scarborough Beach. The weather was beautiful, and the sea breeze made for a perfect post-dessert walk.
Families can also end their outing at the recently refreshed Whale Playground, which has had a touch-up and safety upgrades. It’s an exciting, well-designed play space where kids can climb, swing, and burn off their sugar energy while parents relax nearby.
Cold Rock Scarborough was a simple, fun, and delicious stop for our family. It’s ideal for families wanting a low-key treat and some quality time together. We’ll definitely be back — and next time, we might even try those famous combos.
