Burswood Park has always been a favourite to visit for a walk along the river, a picnic and play in the fenced playground. Well the recent addition of Bilya Cafe has just made it better, now I can get coffee too!
The pop-up cafe is located just near the playground and is open daily offering food and drink options.
The cafe acknowledges the traditional owners of the land, the Noongar people. The name Bilya means river in Nonngar language, reflecting the cafรฉ’s location on the Swan river. A Noongar artist, Linda Lee Loo, created the cafe’s artwork, with the dark blue colour representing the water and the sky.
More information on the meaning of the artwork, the history of the site and even information on the Noongar seasons can be found on the signage next to the cafe.
Bilya Cafe is takeaway, but it does have a small number of tables and chairs available to use.
You get a nice view of the river from the cafe table and chairs and could even keep an eye on the playground. You could always take a picnic rug and set it up closer to the playground or enjoy the gazebos and picnic benches nearby.
The cafe offers a range of drinks including hot drinks, milkshakes and smoothies, bottled water and juices. Food options include toasties, wraps and assorted muffins and sweet items as well as ice cream.
We ordered a toastie for my daughter and a coffee for me and sat at the provided tables to enjoy our food.
After we had finished we took our dog for a walk along the river.
Bilya Cafe is open Monday to Friday 8am to 1pm and weekends 8am to 3pm.
