ANZAC Day Events in Perth

ANZAC Day is a solemn time to remember those who gave their lives in past wars. It can be the perfect time to discuss and teach your children about these events whilst paying tribute to these great men and woman. If you’re looking for family-friendly events and activities, then Buggybuddys has you covered. Check out our list of ANZAC-themed events around Perth including parades, services, breakfasts and more. There’s sure to be something to suit everyone.

Please keep in mind if you have a child with sensory sensitivities to noise that there may be Flypasts performed by the RAAF. We will update our post with these details when/if they become available.

Anzac At Home Ideas

Can’t get out to an Anzac Day event with small kids or due to health issues? Not to worry! You can always observe at home. Why not create some Anzac themed crafts with the kids or bake some Anzac biscuits? The Australian War Memorial website has a list of ideas for the whole family, starting with making paper Anzac poppies.

Another fun craft idea is to make Anzac Day lanterns to light up the dawn on Anzac Day. Be A Fun Mum blog has some easy instructions on how to upcycle a milk bottle into a colourful lantern. Battery operated candles are a flame-free option to avoid burns.

Anzac Day Perth Gunfire Breakfast

This Anzac Day, RSL WA is hosting a community barbeque breakfast at the Government House Gardens. Enjoy tea, coffee, and a breakfast roll in this beautiful garden setting. The Gunfire Breakfast is the perfect opportunity to connect with friends, family, and the WA Veteran community before heading to watch the March on St Georges Terrace starting at 9 AM. ‍

  • Complimentary tea and coffee
  • Breakfast rolls (optional donation to veteran support)
  • Open grass area with tables and chairs

‍ Note: The Gunfire Breakfast at Government House has a limited venue capacity of 2,000 people. ‍

The Gunfire Breakfast tradition dates back to the 1890’s, where ‘gunfire’ referred to an early morning mix of rum and black tea, to provide a dash of courage before a day on the battlefield. The concoction started with English Army Soldiers and was quickly adopted by the Australian and New Zealand soldiers.

Rottnest ANZAC Services 2025

ANZAC Day holds a special place on the Rottnest Island calendar. With a long military history, we commemorate all who have served and continue to serve.

Wadjemup / Rottnest Island played an important role in the First and Second World Wars and there are many places of historical significance that can still be seen on the island today. Many generations of families also hold an important connection to the island with ancestors who were stationed on the island during WWI and WWII. Join us to reflect and mark this important day of remembrance with services on Thomson Lawn watching the sun rise over the Indian Ocean.

This event is free, however  registration is required.

Proudly supported by the Returned & Services League of Western Australia and Lotterywest.

Anzac Day Ceremony – Nedlands

Please join us at 9.00am on Thursday 25 April for our local Anzac Day Ceremony at the Nedlands War Memorial, on the corner of Birdwood Pde & Waratah Ave, Dalkeith.

This ceremony is being hosted in partnership with the Nedlands Returned Services League. All community members are invited to lay wreaths during this ceremony. Street parking is available in surrounding streets.

There will be a local road closure on Thursday 25 April 2024 from 6.30am-11.00am on Birdwood Parade between Gallop Rd & Carroll St, and Waratah Ave between Birdwood Pde & Hobbs Ave for the ceremony.

Anzac Day is our national day of commemoration, marking the 1915 Gallipoli landing during World War 1. This expedition was the first major military action fought by Australian and New Zealand forces during the First World War. The purpose was to capture the Gallipoli peninsula in order to open the Dardanelles to the allied navies. The ultimate objective was to capture Constantinople (now Istanbul), the capital of the Ottoman Empire, an ally of Germany.  This eight-month campaign resulted in significant Australian casualties, with around 8,700 soldiers losing their lives. The brave men who served on the Gallipoli Peninsula forged a powerful and enduring legacy, introducing the term Anzac into our language and embodying the spirit of the Anzacs, characterised by values of mateship and sacrifice. Today, Anzac Day honours all Australians who have served and made the ultimate sacrifice in times of peace and war.  Anzac Day brings together current and former service men and women, their families and the wider community in a tribute to all those who have fought for our freedom and security.  It is a day where all Australians reflect and remember those who have served and died in all wars, conflicts and peacekeeping operations. Lest we forget.
