Perched on the edge of the Darling Scarp in Mundy Regional Park, Lesmurdie Falls is one of those Perth Hills spots that feels a world away, even though itโs an easy drive from the city.

The magic really comes down to timing: visit after winter rains and into spring and youโre far more likely to see the waterfall running and the bushland looking lush, with wildflowers adding colour along the paths.

The payoff is instant too, those sweeping views across the Swan Coastal Plain make this a brilliant place to slow down, breathe in the fresh air and let the kids burn off energy.
The most popular family-friendly option is starting from the picnic area on Falls Road, where youโll find toilets, picnic tables and shade shelters close by.

From here, you can keep things simple with a short wander to lookouts, or turn it into more of a bushwalk depending on everyoneโs mood (and how many snacks you packed). Itโs a great โmultiple generationsโ destination: grandparents can enjoy the views and a cuppa at the tables while the more energetic members of the family head off on a longer loop.

Trail choice is where Lesmurdie Falls really shines. If youโre visiting with little ones (or youโve got a pram in the mix), youโll likely stick close to the picnic area and lookout paths.

The walk down towards the base is the kind that feels easy on the way down but makes itself known on the returnโworth factoring in if youโve got small legs and a late-afternoon schedule.

A few practical notes make the day smoother. Thereโs no drinking water available, so bring plenty, especially in warmer months. Dogs are allowed but must be kept on a leash, which is handy if your family adventures include a four-legged member.

And because this is a steep, rocky escarpment environment in places, itโs a โstick to the pathsโ sort of outing – good shoes and a steady pace make all the difference, particularly after rain when sections can be slippery.
