Looking for something a little different to do with the kids? We recently visited SkyVista, Perth’s newest observation wheel, and it was such a lovely family outing that combines incredible views with a relaxed riverside atmosphere.

Standing an impressive 36 metres high (around the height of a 10-storey building), SkyVista offers breathtaking 360-degree views across the Perth skyline, the Swan River and beyond. The wheel rotates at a slow, gentle pace, giving you plenty of time to soak in the scenery, point out landmarks to the kids and capture some beautiful family photos without feeling rushed.

Each of the 24 fully enclosed gondolas seats up to six people, making it perfect for families. We found the gondola to feel extremely safe and secure. Once everyone is seated, the doors lock and can only be opened by staff from the outside. It was also well ventilated, making the ride comfortable even on a warmer day.

The staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming and were more than happy to help take family photos before we boarded, which was a lovely touch.

One thing we especially loved was how accessible SkyVista is. Every standard gondola is designed to accommodate manual wheelchairs, allowing more families to enjoy the experience together.
There is on-site parking available, making it an easy outing for families travelling by car. Alternatively, you can catch the train to Elizabeth Quay Station and enjoy a beautiful stroll along the waterfront before arriving at the wheel.

Our recommendation? Make a morning or afternoon of it. Start with your SkyVista ride, then either grab a freshly brewed coffee from Double A on the River, located beside the rowing club, or pack a picnic and head to the Swan River foreshore. There is plenty of grass to relax on while enjoying the spectacular riverside views. We were even lucky enough to spot several jellyfish swimming close to the shoreline, which the kids thought was fascinating.

Tickets can be purchased online in advance or just before your ride on-site, making it easy to plan your visit around the weather. If you’re unsure what the conditions will be like, you can simply purchase your tickets when you arrive, still online.

The observation wheel is proudly WA owned and operated and is suitable for all ages. Families with younger children will appreciate the slow, smooth rotation, while older kids and adults will love spotting Perth’s iconic landmarks from above.

SkyVista is open daily during the school holidays before moving to afternoon and weekend operating hours until 23 August 2026, giving families plenty of opportunities to visit before it leaves Perth.
Whether you choose to ride during the day for crystal-clear views or visit after sunset when the wheel lights up the foreshore with more than 125,000 colourful LED lights, SkyVista offers a memorable experience from start to finish.
If you’re planning a family day out in the city, we’d definitely recommend adding SkyVista to your itinerary. Pair your ride with a picnic by the Swan River or a coffee overlooking the water, and you’ve got a simple yet memorable outing that showcases some of the very best views Perth has to offer.
