Adrenaline Vault is the largest bouldering facility in Perth. What’s bouldering? Bouldering is basically rock climbing with the ropes and harnesses. That may sound worrying but the floor around the bouldering walls at Adrenaline Vault is lined with extra thick soft mats to catch your fall.
Once you have signed the online waiver forms, which includes setting up an account with a photo to make booking in for future visits easier, it’s time to head over to the Pro Shop to be fitted with a pair of rental climbing shoes and to take part in a safety talk and demonstration.
The wall holds are graded in colour starting at yellow for beginners through to black for the experts with varying levels in between. You are guaranteed to be challenged on the courses no matter what your skill level.
The practise wall is an easy start up a straight wall which allows you to get the hang of the feel of the hand and footholds. The idea is to get to the top of the climb only touching the colour grade you are on.
Each grade has different challenges such as the “Top Out”, you climb to the top of the wall and walk along then climb down the other side.
The boys found 3 Top Outs on the beginner yellow course one of which also included an “Over Hang” which added to the challenge. Not only were climbing up but they were also vertical!
The wall climbs have different level starting points for the hands and feet, one of which was from the floor. I thought Matt was just having a rest but he was working out how to get started.
The “Over Hangs” were popular with the boys and needed a lot of upper body strength to get past the horizontal climb and back to the vertical.
Adrenaline Vault changes the Walltopia climbs regularly so you can always be challenged and improve your skills.
There are regular 4-week courses held for beginners or those looking to improve their skills and techniques. Ideal for those working on the Yellow, Green and Red climbs.
The Youth Squad is the Adrenaline Vault’s youth program that is aimed for those 17 years and under it offers fun, creative, experiential learning. It is designed to introduce climbing progressions and improvements to the Youth Squad members. Coaches accommodate individual needs of each climber, building a safe and supportive atmosphere. While learning technical climbing fundamentals, Youth Squad members will also explore the basics of fitness and climbing training.
Climbing shoes are available to hire from the Pro Shop, there is also chalk available, the boys didn’t use any chalk on their hands and their grip was fine.
There is also a fully equipped gym on site and they offer yoga classes and massages. After your workout you can head over to the café for a coffee or enjoy one of their homemade iced teas, we had the hibiscus and green tea – it was delicious.
Adrenaline Vault is located at 72 Robinson Avenue, Belmont
