Beatty Park Leisure Centre in North Perth continues to live up to its reputation as one of Perthโ€™s best familyโ€‘friendly aquatic centres. Just 3km from the CBD, itโ€™s a brilliant allโ€‘round option whether youโ€™re visiting with toddlers for a splash, taking bigger kids for a full day of water play, or squeezing in your own workout while the kids are cared for.

As you enter, youโ€™ll find the wellโ€‘stocked swim shop on the left, handy if youโ€™ve forgotten goggles, bathers or floaties.

Once youโ€™re through the doors, the indoor family area is the star attraction. The large heated leisure pool is designed with children in mind, with a beachโ€‘style entry that makes it easy for little ones (and prams) to get in and out. The water depth ranges from 0.0m to 0.9m, so itโ€™s ideal for babies through to primaryโ€‘schoolers gaining water confidence. Along the shallow edge there are water spouts and spray arches, which are perfect for cautious kids who want to play in the water without fully submerging.

A few steps further in is the muchโ€‘loved frog slide, which remains a huge hit with younger children, and a tipping bucket that keeps kids of all ages racing back for โ€œjust one moreโ€ drenching.

Older kids and tweens will enjoy the netball hoops set up in the water, adding a fun, active twist to pool time.

Beatty Parkโ€™s waterslides are a huge drawcard for families, and the centre publishes dedicated slide hours: on weekdays the slides and water features aim to run from 9am to 6:30pm, and on weekends and public holidays from 9am to 5pm (these hours can change due to technical or staffing issues, so itโ€™s worth calling ahead if the slides are a mustโ€‘do for your visit).

Alongside the leisure pool, there is a 25m heated indoor lap pool with a depth of 0.9m to 1.2m. Families can use the designated leisure lane, while the other lanes are reserved for lap swimmers. This works well if you have one child keen on play and another wanting to practise laps.

For adults and older teens (16+), there is a dedicated spa, sauna and steam room area for a postโ€‘swim relax, available for an additional fee.

Outdoors, Beatty Park really shows its heritage as a serious aquatic venue. There is a 50m, 10โ€‘lane heated pool (1.2m to 1.8m deep) for proper lap swimming and carnivals, a 30m heated pool (1.8m to 2.0m) and a 12m x 12m heated โ€œLearn to Swimโ€ pool (0.9m to 1.2m deep).

The pool deck opens onto a generous grassed area with shade sails โ€“ great for picnics, spreading out towels and giving kids a chance to run around between swims. The centre website has a live lap lane availability tool, and the dayโ€‘byโ€‘day timetable clearly shows busy, offโ€‘peak and fully booked times in the outdoor pools, which is really useful if youโ€™re planning a quiet family swim or need space for confident swimmers to practise.

Accessibility is clearly a priority at Beatty Park. The complex has been designed with universal access in mind, catering well for parents with prams, older visitors and people with disabilities. Almost all areas of the centre are accessible via ramps (the upper grandstand is the main exception). Indoors, the beach entry makes the leisure pool easy to access with mobility aids. Outdoors, pools can be reached via stairs and ramps with handrails, and there is a hydraulic hoist and water wheelchair available for anyone needing extra support to get into the water. The centre also runs inclusive Angelfish swimming classes and private special needs lessons through its Swim School program, which is worth exploring if you have a child who needs oneโ€‘onโ€‘one or tailored support in the water.

For families who want more than a casual splash, Beatty Parkโ€™s Swim School offers structured classes from 4 months of age right through to adults. There are parent and baby classes, underโ€‘5s and overโ€‘5s lesson streams, youth classes, Swim and Survive Bronze strand, junior fitness and even dive and turn classes for kids honing their technique. Adult classes cater for everyone from nervous beginners to more confident swimmers. There are also flexible options like senior social swim and Flexi Swimming Lessons. During school holidays, the centre regularly runs intensive programs over four days, which is a great way to boost skills quickly.

Beyond the pools, Beatty Park is a full fitness hub. Thereโ€™s a large 750sqm gym equipped for strength and cardio training, plus a huge timetable of more than 100 group fitness classes each week. These range from Les Mills favourites such as BODYPUMP, BODYCOMBAT, BODYBALANCE, GRIT, CORE, RPM and BODYJAM to a wide range of yoga and Pilatesโ€‘style options including Back to Basics Yoga, Vinyasa Yoga, Yin Yoga, power flow yoga, mat Pilates, barreโ€‘style Shapes classes and Yogalates. There are also aqua fitness classes in the pools, including Aqua HIIT, Aqua Zumba, Aqua Cardio and more. Seniors are well catered for with the Energywise overโ€‘50s exercise program, which offers changing studio and poolโ€‘based classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Parents keen to squeeze in a workout or class will appreciate the onโ€‘site creche. The creche operates every morning of the week (with slightly shorter hours on Saturdays and closed Sundays), and is set up so you can safely leave little ones while you swim, hit the gym or take a class. During peak holiday periods they also run a Kids Club for 6โ€“12 year olds on selected mornings, with supervised activities in the Club Room while you enjoy some โ€œme timeโ€ in the centre.

When itโ€™s time for a break, the Beatty Park Cafรฉ overlooks the indoor water Playground, making it easy to keep half an eye on older kids while you enjoy a coffee or light meal. The menu covers simple, familyโ€‘friendly options and snacks โ€“ perfect for a postโ€‘swim refuel before heading home. Inside the main building youโ€™ll also find family change rooms, lockers and clubrooms, plus all the usual amenities youโ€™d expect at a modern leisure centre.

Beatty Park Leisure Centre

Beatty Park continues to evolve, with regular events like Back 2 School Splash pool parties, Les Mills launches and communityโ€‘focused initiatives such as zeroโ€‘waste refill stations. Combined with its strong accessibility features, broad fitness and aquatics programs, and excellent facilities for both serious swimmers and young families, itโ€™s easy to see why Beatty Park remains a favourite with Perth families.
