As a mum with a toddler whoโ€™s constantly on the move, I know the importance of finding activities that are both fun and educational. Toddlerfest offers the ideal mix of science, play and imagination for kids aged 0-5 years and it’s an experience you wonโ€™t want to miss. Hereโ€™s everything you need to know to make the most of your visit!

What to Expect at Toddlerfest

Toddlerfest at Scitech is packed with interactive exhibits, engaging shows and activities that help your toddler explore the world of STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics) in a fun and hands-on way. From space travel to building cars, the possibilities for learning and discovery are endless!

  1. Bubble Trouble โ€“ Big Stage

This show was an absolute hit with Kai! The Bubble Trouble performance, starring Professor Pop and Toot, takes your toddler on a bubbly adventure. Itโ€™s all about exploring how bubbles float and why theyโ€™re so mesmerising. Kai loved watching giant bubbles float around the stage and I loved seeing his face light up every time one of them appeared. Itโ€™s not just funโ€”itโ€™s a great way for little ones to start learning about light, air and science in a playful, sensory way.

  1. A Little Trip to the Moon โ€“ Planetarium

This brand-new 10-minute planetarium show is perfect for little space enthusiasts. If your toddler is a bit unsure of the dark (like Kai was at first), donโ€™t stressโ€”itโ€™s designed to be a gentle introduction to space. And if they still donโ€™t feel comfortable, staff understand that you may need to quietly slip out through one of the exits. The show kept Kai mesmerised and the visuals were just stunning. Itโ€™s short enough to keep their attention, but just long enough to spark curiosity about the moon and stars.

  1. Curiosity Corner โ€“ Explore, Play, Experiment

Curiosity Corner was a big favourite for us. With activities like a giant kaleidoscope, sound tubes and car racing, itโ€™s the ultimate sensory exploration space. Kai couldnโ€™t get enough of racing cars on different surfaces, learning how friction works and experimenting with musical pipes. Itโ€™s the perfect place for toddlers to test out cause and effect, and youโ€™ll find your little one darting from one station to the next!

  1. Imagination Station โ€“ Space Adventure

At the Imagination Station, your toddler can pretend to be an astronaut exploring a glow-in-the-dark solar system. While Kai wasnโ€™t so keen on the astronaut helmet, the fluorescent lights and opportunity to countdown to โ€˜take-offโ€™ completely captured his imagination. This is a great space for toddlers to let their creativity run wild and we even got some fun photos to remember the experience!

  1. Downhill Racer โ€“ Build and Race Cars

Another highlight of our visit was the Downhill Racer activity. This station lets toddlers design and race their own cars down a ramp, learning about speed, design and motion in the process. With small pieces to build with, itโ€™s better suited for older toddlers (4+), but Kai loved it with a little help from us. His favourite part? Pulling the lever to send his car flying down the ramp! Itโ€™s all about testing, building and thinking fast.

  1. Make and Create โ€“ Crafting Mars

Make and Create was perfect for Kaiโ€™s budding creativity. Here, kids use a variety of materials (like pipe cleaners, cups and pegs) to create their own little spacecraft and add it to a Martian landscape. The hands-on crafting was a great way for Kai to express his creativity and use his fine motor skills, all while learning about sustainability through the partnership with ReMida, who repurpose business offcuts for art and education. Itโ€™s eco-friendly fun that also teaches kids the value of reusing materials!

  1. Baby Play Space and Zippy Coaster

For pre-walkers and younger toddlers (6-18 months), the Baby Play Space offers a soft, safe environment to explore. Plus, the Zippy Coaster is a fun ride, perfect for kids up to 5 years. Kai loved zooming along the coaster and I felt completely at ease knowing it was tailored for little ones.

  1. Rhyme Time โ€“ Songs with Actions

If you love singing songs and making memories with your toddler, donโ€™t miss Rhyme Time. Kai loved joining in with the songs and it was wonderful to see that caregivers could follow along with the lyrics in the large flipbook displayed at the front. The songs are interactive, with actions that help toddlers develop their motor skills while having fun. Itโ€™s a simple yet effective way for toddlers and their adults to bond and engage while teaching rhythm and language.

Additional Tips for Toddler Caregivers

Little Explorers Passport: When you arrive, be sure to grab a Little Explorers Passport. This clever little guide has six activities to complete throughout Toddlerfest. Itโ€™s a fantastic visual guide for toddlers, helping them track their progress through the day. Kai was so excited to collect stamps as we completed each activity!

Discoverland โ€“ Foster Your Toddlerโ€™s Love of Learning: Donโ€™t forget to explore Discoverland! This space is designed to nurture curiosity in toddlers, offering interactive exhibits where families can learn and play together. Kai had a blast in the Discoverland play areas, testing his problem-solving skills and enjoying the hands-on exhibits.
