If your little one loves diggers, sand, trucks and building sites, Dig N Play in Ellenbrook is sure to be a hit. This construction-themed indoor play centre is designed especially for children aged 0 to 8 years and is a fun new spot for Perth families looking for an indoor play option with a difference.

Located on The Broadway in Ellenbrook, Dig N Play is all about hands-on, imaginative play. Rather than the usual indoor Playground set-up of slides, climbing frames and arcade games, this play centre has been created around digging, building, transporting, stacking and exploring. It is a great fit for little builders who love construction vehicles, sand play and creating their own mini worksites.

The main attraction is WA’s biggest indoor sandpit, complete with ride-on excavators and plenty of sand toys. Children can scoop, dig, load and move sand, which is always a winner with younger kids.

There are also wheelbarrows, oversized foam bricks, construction tools, timber planks, loose parts and a workbench, giving children lots of opportunities to build and problem-solve as they play.

There is plenty to keep little hands busy across the play space.

Children can spend time in the Duplo Lego building zone, creating towers, houses and anything else their imagination comes up with.

The chalkboard wall is another fun spot for little ones to draw, mark out their building plans or simply get creative.

The tool play house and brick construction area give children the chance to hammer, build, stack and problem-solve as they create their own mini worksites.

There is also a construction dress-up station, which is perfect for children who like getting into character before heading off to work on their next big project.

For quieter moments, families will find a reading nook, bean bags and crash pads. These are handy for children who need a little break from the busier play areas or prefer a calmer corner. The open-ended play style means children can move between activities at their own pace, with no set way to play.

Families with babies and younger toddlers will appreciate the gated Tiny Builders Zone, which is strictly for children aged 18 months and under. It gives the smallest visitors a safe space to explore while older siblings enjoy the main play areas nearby.

Dig N Play has also been designed with inclusion in mind. The venue has wheelchair-friendly access throughout the space wherever possible, along with a wheelchair-accessible construction station so more children can join in the fun. There are also thoughtful cultural touches, including an Acknowledgement of Country and Jarjum Dolls in the baby area, helping make the centre feel welcoming and considered for local families.

Play sessions run for two hours and are capped at 20 children per session. This is a big plus if you prefer indoor play centres that feel less crowded and easier to supervise. Between sessions, the venue closes so the team can clean, sanitise and reset the play space before the next group arrives.

Bookings are recommended, especially on weekends and during school holidays. Walk-ins are welcome when space allows, but once a session reaches capacity, additional visitors cannot be admitted. All children under 18 need a signed online waiver before attending, which can be completed through the Dig N Play website.

Parents and carers can get involved in the play too, whether that is helping to build a foam brick wall, joining in at the sandpit or watching from the seating area. Families are welcome to bring snacks, packed lunches and water bottles to enjoy in the designated eating area. Food and drinks are not permitted inside the play zones. The on-site café offers barista-made coffee, cold drinks and pre-packaged snacks, which is always a bonus for grown-ups.

Dig N Play also offers birthday parties for children aged 0 to 8 years. Families can book exclusive venue hire for a private celebration or choose a Party Zone Package during a public play session. Exclusive venue hire includes two hours of private use of the play space and party area for up to 20 children, with the option to add extra children up to a maximum of 25. The Party Zone Package is suited to smaller celebrations of up to 10 children and includes reserved seating during a scheduled session.

Families can bring their own birthday cake, party food and decorations, making it easy to personalise the celebration. Balloons are welcome, but decorations that stick to walls or create too much mess are not permitted. Once food service begins, children cannot return to the play area due to hygiene and safety requirements.

A few important rules help keep the space safe and clean. Shoes must be removed before entering the play zones, and no food, drinks, chewing gum or lollies are allowed in the play areas. Running, climbing, rough play and throwing toys are not permitted, and the main play areas are for children aged 8 and under.

Dig N Play is a fantastic option for a playdate, birthday party or wet-weather outing in Perth’s north-east. It is particularly well suited to younger children who love sensory play, construction vehicles and building. With smaller session numbers, a clean and organised set-up, and lots of thoughtful details for families, it is a welcome addition to Perth’s indoor play scene.

Top tip: Book online before you go. Sessions are capped at 20 children, so popular times may fill quickly.
