Urban Food District is a fantastic new option for families visiting Crown Perth, especially if you’re heading to a show at Crown Theatre. Located just across the road from the theatre, it’s incredibly handy for a relaxed lunch or easy pre‑show dinner without the formality of a sit‑down restaurant. You can arrive early, grab what everyone feels like, and not worry about long waits for table service when you’re watching the clock.

The vibe is very much “upscale food court” – bright, busy and modern, with the energy of a global street market. It’s designed as a social hub, so expect music, buzz and lots going on. There’s a mix of seating from tables you can pull together for a bigger group to more casual spots where older kids and teens will love hanging out and people‑watching. It feels like a step up from your standard shopping centre food court, making it a good fit if you’re staying at Crown and want something more relaxed than a restaurant, but still a bit special.

For families, one of the biggest pluses is the variety of venues all in one spot. Burgers By ES brings big American-style energy with egg-loaded burgers from morning through to late-night, perfect for hungry teens or anyone after a hearty, messy feed.

Side Piece Pizza serves New York-style pizza by the slice with bold toppings and a fun attitude, great for kids who just want “plain pizza” as well as more adventurous eaters.

Tekka Bar adds a Japanese twist with made-to-order hand rolls and sushi, ideal for fresher, lighter bites or sushi-loving kids.

There’s also Saigon Story, which dishes up vibrant Vietnamese street food. During our visit, we tried the crispy pork banh mi from Saigon Story and it was a real standout. It came packed with generous chunks of meat and was incredibly tasty, offering a fresh, crunchy, and filling option that felt like great value.

To keep everyone refreshed, Chatime is on hand with bubble tea, which is always a hit with tweens and teens. With loads of flavour combinations and toppings, it’s perfect as either a drink with your meal or a sweet treat before or after a show.

Out in the open air, the Beer Garden gives adults a relaxed space for a drink while still being close enough to grab food from inside the district and bring it out. It’s ideal for a pre-show drink or a relaxed afternoon while the kids enjoy their meals nearby.

For adults-only catch-ups, 1520 is a hip hop-inspired lounge bar with a strong music vibe and cocktails; this one is strictly 18+ and better suited to a kid-free night at Crown.

Urban Food District is ideal for those nights when one child only eats fries, another is eyeing off the pizza, and the adults are hoping for something a bit more interesting. Everyone can choose their own meal and then regroup at a shared table. The food offering will continue to grow, with more concepts on the way including Mexican and gelato.
Families should note that under-18s must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian, and children are welcome in the Urban Food District until 8pm. Earlier in the day and early evening it works perfectly for family dining; later on, the atmosphere shifts more towards an adult crowd, especially on weekends when there’s more of a nightlife feel.

Overall, Urban Food District is a very handy, family-friendly addition to Crown Perth. It’s perfect if you’re staying onsite with kids and want a more informal dining experience, or if you’re meeting friends before a show and need something quick, tasty, and flexible. With its central location opposite Crown Theatre, range of global flavours, and fun, buzzing atmosphere, it’s set to become a go-to spot for pre-show eats and casual family catch-ups.
