If you’re exploring Augusta with kids in tow, Granny’s Pool is the ultimate spot for a relaxed beach day with young children. Hidden away just south of the popular Flinders Bay beach, this local family favourite has crystal-clear waters, with hardly any seaweed and calm swimming conditions.

Granny’s Pool is like a giant saltwater bath – ideal for toddlers, kids, and even parents looking for a peaceful paddle. We really enjoyed not having to step on seaweed and just lazing in the waters. The small beach is sheltered from the ferocious Southern Ocean by rocks, and is framed by pristine white sand.

Shallow water, with hardly a wave in sight makes it easy for little kids to splash around without worrying about being dumped. Most of the area was only knee deep on me, though that changes with the tides.

Remember to pack the goggles – swim around the rocky areas to spot all sorts of sea life, including whiting, angel fish and beautiful spotted fish hiding in the crevices.

There are even remnants of the old Flinders Bay Jetty to spot.

Once the kids have had enough swimming, be sure to let them have a little play on the Flinders Bay Ship Playground too. It’s just a two minute walk away.

At Flinders Bay there are changerooms, showers and toilets, as well as picnic facilities.

Parking is easy and close to the beach, handy for families with little ones and plenty to carry. Because Granny’s Pool is a bit off the beaten track, it’s often quieter than the busier beaches in the southwest. Granny’s Pool is a sweet spot. Be sure to check it out on your next trip to Augusta.
