The Oar House in Bayswater is a beautiful riverside café. Set on the banks of the Swan River, this café is perfect for the young and old. Grab a coffee or a bite to eat and set up on of the tables by the river. They have tables both inside and out, making it perfect for a summer’s day or a little winter drizzle. Just bring the gum boots and let the kids splash about.
The river setting allows you to sit back and relax, let the kids go duck spotting and watch the boats go by. There is ample free parking, plus public restrooms with a change table at the back of the café. The small jetty allows you to walk along and watch people fishing, which my daughter loved to watch. The café does have a box of mix-matched toys, which could do with an update, but I don’t think toys are needed. My daughter, who normally needs some entertainment, was happy to walk around and watch the ducks.
There is also a small playground right next door to the café with a large sandpit, saw, and swing. There are plenty of sealed paths for a nature walk or bike ride.
If you want to add some more adventure on to your trip the Riverside Gardens playground is just a short walk away providing a great fenced playground for all ages. Or if you want a more relaxing way to finish your coffee take a quick walk to Ellis House Community Art Centre where there are free art exhibitions on, open Thursday to Sunday 10am to 4pm.
This is a great central stop and was a lovely way to start the day. The caffeine hit was definitely needed, and the BLT Panini filled the spot for the morning hunger. The fudgy brownie was certainly a hit with my toddler, and I realised why when I took a bite, as it was incredibly sweet! She avoided an afternoon sugar crash, thankfully.
Add this one to your list if looking for a new way to start the day, all kids like baby chinos and ducks!
