Valley of the Giants is an absoluteย โmust visitโย attraction in the great southern region ofย Western Australia. Since I was a kid, back when Elle McPherson famously visitedย the tree top walk, Iโd wanted to visit this special part of WA.ย
The Valley of the Giants, is a unique area of ancient, rare red tingle trees,ย is locatedย west of Denmark.ย The Tree Top Walk is found in the heart of the Valley of the Giants.โฏHere the whole family can experienceย walkingย through the canopy of the tingle forest and enjoy the majestic viewsย from a very different perspective!ย An entrance fee is payable for the tree top walk, but it is free to visit theย Ancient Empireย Walk, Discovery Centre and gift shop.ย
The Tree Top Walk is 600 metres long and the walkways areย 40 metres highย at theย tallest point. There are no steps, just a gentle, sloping climbย up aย lightweight, architecturally-designed bridge. This makesย itย suitable for childrenย of all ages, including wheelchairs and strollersย (you canย alsoย hire freeย wheelchair andย strollers).ย
The walk ways do move a little, I felt a bit like I was on a boat, softly bobbing on the ocean.ย We all enjoyed the tranquil walk amongst theย branches and birds.ย
As well as the Tree Top Walk there is another walk trail –ย the Ancient Empire boardwalk. While walking this pathย you can get up close and personal to theย beautifulย old giants of the forest, as well as the lush growth of the forest floor, where there are many beautiful plants, flowers and wildlife.
Itโs a lovely walk along the 600-metre boardwalkย and stabilised earth paths, whichย has been designed as anย experienceย to explore theย science, fantasy andย grandeur of theย ancientย trees.ย There are information boards around the walk, adding some interesting facts along the way.
One of the mostย popularย trees isย known as Grandma Tingle, as the gnarledย 400 yearย old tree does appear to have a face!ย
The walkย winds in and out of the tingle forest andย you canย evenย walkย throughย the hollow trunks ofย some giant trees! Itโs a brilliant photo opportunity.ย
Afterwards, we looked around theย Wildernessย Discovery Centre, which is a small interactive exhibitย about the localย wilderness,ย animals, plantsย andย insects surrounding the Tree Top Walk.
Thereโs aย well-stocked gift shop, with a whole range of souvenirs.ย Youโll also findย public toilets with baby change facilities.ย There are a couple of vending machines andย also barbecueย areas.
Find theย Valley of the Giants Road off the South Coast Highway, Nornalup,ย near Walpole.
Opening hours every day of the year apart from Christmas Day or hazardous conditionsย areย 9am – 5pm (last ticket sold 4.15pm).ย Extended opening hoursย areย between 26 December and 26 January 8am – 6pm (last ticket sale 5.15pm).
