There are plenty of fabulous places to park up for some water fun along the Swan foreshore and none better than East Fremantle. We recently discovered Wayman Reserve, tucked away just up from the more popular hubs and across from the Leeuwin barracks.
It’s quite a small, unassuming spot from the road and if you are driving past it is a bit of a ‘blink and you’ll miss it’ kind of reserve. But that’s part of it’s appeal. There is a small car park across the road which was thankfully not full.
The day we went was a warm, sunny Perth day and all along the river strip there were families and water lovers galore packing the usual hotspots.
Wayman Reserve was pleasantly quiet and the perfect spot for a swim and even better – it’s puppy friendly!
Because it is protected by the wharf and private docks, the waters were relatively calm and ideal for young swimmers who may not be quite ready to face the ocean waves. My kids had a ball exploring the shore and the water was clean and clear. It felt just like the beach.
We had VIP views of the yachts doing their sailing drills which we all thought was impressive.
There is a gazebo nearby where we had our picnic lunch.
The reserve has a great open space grassed area for games or taking in the river views. There is also a great work out station for fitness fans and a rather enthusiastic family seemed to be enjoying the circuit with their kids on the day we went.
This is also a fantastic little inlet for amateur fisher-children.
We had much success catching plenty of …. Blowies!
The kids didn’t care and it was a great experience for them to try their hand at the rod and spend a bit of bonding time with Dad.
After our water activities we enjoyed a lovely stroll and headed home. Wayman Reserve is a perfect choice if you want to get away from the crowds.
